Vacation to Nebraska

If all goes accordingly I'll be making the trek from the bayou to Omaha for a vacation the 17th-28th. This will be my first time over there and was looking for advice on hotels, tickets, bars, tailgates, absolutely anything from some seasoned Omaha veterans. Any sort of tips or tricks, etc. will be appreciated. Hopefully we give these douche roosters a run for there money this weekend.

Take plenty of reading material.

Don't sit in the outfield bleachers if you want to catch a ball.
Sit on the infield dirt.

Purchase a book of GA tickets for cheap and sit in outfield for games LSU isn't playing in. Good atmosphere out there. Wait until an hour or so before game time to purchase reserved seating because ticket prices usually drop before then. Also, there's this cool website they use where you can bid on tickets under the price set by the seller. Unlike stubhub where you can only pay what seller wants.

Flash seats are the way to go for tickets. Sat behind home plate every game last year for cheap.

Yeah this. You can do it easily on your phone and look for tickets for extremely cheap 10 minutes before first pitch. The tickets are linked to your credit card when you pay for them so all you need to do is swipe credit card at the gate to get in (no need to print tickets).

Barrett's Barley Corn is the LSU bar. Even the team goes there.
But . . .
There is no way I could do it for eleven days. You know the team doesn't play every day, right?
Omaha is a nice, quiet town with a definite mid-western feel. You will enjoy being around the stadium and seeing the sights. Besides the games, everything else worth doing can be done in three days. Better bring golf clubs.

Well that's part of what I was getting at. I'll be there as long as we are, eating and drinking can consume the days we may not play along with whatever else may be around to do. I hope I'm there for 11 days, I'll trade boredom for more W's.

If you want to save a few dollars on hotel costs, rather than staying in downtown Omaha, stay in either Council Bluffs, Iowa across the Missouri River from downtown or in one of the hotels west of downtown.
Council Bluffs is to Omaha like Port Allen is to Baton Rouge, except the Missouri River is only about 200 yards wide. There's even a pedestrian bridge crossing the river between Council Bluffs and downtown Omaha which ends on the Omaha side within a half mile of TD Ameritrade Stadium.
I've stayed in Council Bluffs several times and learned that many of the hotels there offer free shuttle to/from TD Ameritrade Stadium during the CWS and to/from the airport.

My little brother lives out there and I've visited him before. It's a nice little town that is impossible to get lost in. If you are a golfer, bring your clubs. There are several great courses as most of the folks that live there are in the insurance biz and play golf regularly.

I went the entire time in 97, loved it. Went to a bunch of games we didn't play in, Barley Corn nightly.
Great time

Old market is cool and has a lot going on.
Block 16
Jams
Boiled room
Jackson Street Tavern
Upstream Brewery
Brickway Brewery
All have good food and a few have good beer.
Mr. Toad
Barry O's
Havana Garage (cigar bar with good drinks) are all right by each other
Barret's is of course a must just for the madness.
D/L the parking meter app when you get there so you can park in one spot downtown and extend the time without having to go back to the car.
There are a few bars right around the stadium that are big, one with a bar downstairs and upstairs. Bring cash as there is always a cash line that is shorter.
If I think of more I'll post.
Eta: almost forgot council bluffs if you want casinos and BYOB full nude titty bars. 15 minutes from Omaha, just inside Iowa.

I stayed in Lincoln last year and I'm staying there again this year. It's only a 45 minute drive to Omaha and it's all interstate with a 75 mph speed limit. Not to mention I save at least $100 per night for hotel while I was there. I checked in early Saturday morning and was there until Friday since LSU lost Thursday night to TCU.
Flying into KC this year though and getting a rental car. That drive from BR to Lincoln was brutal last year alone.
If LSU makes it again, same plans this year but hoping for a better result!!!
