What the....? So in just about any other industry people are only given raises in order to keep them at their place of business when they threaten to leave? That is an asinine statement if I have ever heard one.

You give raises, first and foremost, as an award and appreciation for the performance/production that an employee has shown. Does this help to keep an employee happy and possibly deter them from looking around? Sure it does. But it should not be your sole reason for doing it.

O has performed and proven he deserves a raise, regardless if there is a threat to lose him to someone else. Now, like others have stated, I'm not suggesting you break the bank on it. Somewhere in the 6-6.5 million range is appropriate. And with the increased revenue LSU is already making on that performance, and I'm sure will continue to rake in from donors, they can afford it.

You don't give a raise just to give a raise.
You give a raise for retention.
Part of retention is that people expect raises and will leave if they don't get a raise.
But you pay what you think it will take to retain.

I would bump O up to just above Mullen. With an additional provision that if he wins another (yes I'm assuming) National Title it goes to 7m.

Remember, he's paying assistants some of the best salaries in the nation.

I'd be in favor of a small bump in the annual salary, but heavy incentives for the Championships

Then you will not have a good coach with that approach. It is All about market value and right now Coach O has a high market value. It would be a disgrace to not pay him at least what Kirby Smart is getting. The incentive idea on top of the higher salary. There aren't that many coaches that work as hard as Orgeron. He could command Kirby's salary just about anywhere. I bet USC would jump on him in a heartbeat.

Yes, but not to the level Saban and Fisher are making, and heavily performance based

Repeating what you have already stated doesn't just magically make you correct now.

Giving a raise as a reward for exceptional performance/production does not equal giving "a raise just to give a raise." It is the main reason for giving raises in just about every work industry in America.

It’s a business where funding is limited and has to be allocated correctly in order to sustain a dynasty. I don’t think you blow the bank on O because well...you don’t have to, he’s not ever going to leave for another college team.

Assistants will be key. He has to have a good organization around him

He will allow room to keep paying coordinators, analysts, etc.

As he should. Orgeron's biggest strength so far is that he went out and got good coordinators and has let them do their jobs without much, if any, meddling. As long as he continues to do that, he will continue to succeed.

bullshite.

There are not many places that are willing to pay Kirby his salary.

There are only four schools with HC salaries above Georgia. Two are in the SEC.

So, NO, he could not command Kirby's salary just about anywhere. There are very few schools willing pay that much.

USC might want Orgeron. But the question is what is USC and other schools willing to offer him.

LSU should not pay Orgeron a Kirby salary just because Orgeron has done more than Kirby this year.

Wrong.
The main reason to give a performance raise is to retain the person.

He should get $6.5 to $7m if we win. Pay a winner what he is worth in the market.

Why does anyone care what the head coach of a national championship team make. Pay him $20mil for all I care.

I’m not running the business.

He 100% deserves a raise and he should get one.

How big it should be depends on what happens Monday.

Ed will get a raise, but he will also want his assistant coaching salary pool to expand. Shouldn’t be an issue with how much revenue CFPs brings in.
