YES IT DOES! You can't take a redshirt at a school if your scholly is revoked and you want to avoid suspensions
You lose the year if it is due to an NCAA suspension, not a school suspension.

its not even a one year ban from ncaa schools if he can play at mcneese.

Don't know if possible or applies but could TOPS help and him just walk-on next year?
The money is the least problematic part of this situation. It is also the easiest to take care of.
Sources are reporting that Raph Rhymes is giving his scholarship to the badger

I don't think he is suspended from LSU just off the team. Might be wrong. If suspended he would not be eligible to play at ANY NCAA school FBS or FCS. He can sit and reapply.

If it's "permanent ineligibility" then damn. Him wanting to come back after a year sounds like the best course of action for all involved. Who here really agrees that permanent dismissal is a valid punishment for a college kid who smokes weed?
One year is more than enough. If he comes back and passes drug tests, it shows he learned his lesson - and isn't that the point?

not being able to play at ncaa schools was if he failed a ncaa drug test 3 times.

I agree that people shouldn't assume so much but this one is pretty simple. It's a team policy, meaning he was stripped of his team membership. The coaches decide player scholarships and the university pays accordingly. When he is kicked off the team, the university doesn't pay for his scholarship. They don't kick him out of school. Pretty simple, really.
Btw....kicking a kid out of school for smoking weed would definitely be bad for almost every university.

Exactly. He has no NCAA violations against him. Not a NCAA suspension so he can play at a FCS school then xfer to FBS. If he is suspended from school he can't play anywhere. No FBS/FCS. SO therefor LSU did not suspend him.

It seems to me that LSU had already drawn a line in the sand BEFORE this last screw-up....."Look, you've used up all your chances...If you screw up again, you're out of here for good...No suspension, etc, you're gone."
He screwed up again, and LSU/Miles/Alleva stood by their word and aren't caving, even though it appears TM has a desire to return to LSU in any way possible, even if it means sitting out an entire season.
People can say give him another chance if he gets his act straight, but that rests on the assumption that he has any "chances" left in the minds of Alleva/Miles.
I think it'd be great if he came back in 2013 after sitting out a year and getting clean, but then again we don't know everything about the past and how much leeway/chances they had already given him.

not sure how reliable this guy is.
The article quotes a "source" close to Mathieu. Josh Jasper is also close to Mathieu and is a "source" and hes (wrongly) stated that Mathieu already transferred to McNeese.

Yep. This is completely a team policy issue. He has not been suspended by the NCAA or the university. He was kicked off team. What it really boils down to is whether or not the team policy states and truly means that you can never play at LSU again after being kicked off the team.

Just remember this. Public opinion rules at LSU. I think if there is a big enough uproar over this, and thats a big IF, change or a second chance may be in the cards. Its a long shot but i can still hope dammit.

Wasn't Jefferson kicked off the team?

Tru HBT. I think TM7 will have to prove it to Alleva to get any momentum on his side in rejoining the team. Like I said public opinion hold a ridiculous amount of sway at LSU also.

I agree....Alleva probably approaches it with a black/white (no grey area) business decision. Miles probably is more interested in the human aspect of it all and helping a young guy get his act straight in a father-son personal redemption kind of way.
