I bet this is the case: Internally hostil, outsiders welcoming.
We're hostile to everyone, I think that's more accurate. But if you can take it with a smile, and say "Roll Tide", "War Eagle" or "Go Ducks" (I guess?) then you'll be fed and given plenty of bourbon.

Think of it this way. You are probably the only team in the SEC who could brake away from the SEC and go independent and do your own TV deals(ala ND, BYU ect.) and have any success. And maybe it is this more independent spirit with LSU that causes LSU to be respected TONS more then any other SEC for us PAC fans.
Thanks for the interest and respect. Believe me....we take care of our own. We fear nobody.

After responding to your post about LSU's natural rivalry and also reading the reactions from LSU fans about that natural rivalry, that was then this is now. You should be informed to know that it is in the DNA of Louisiana people to love duck hunting. We are bred to go duck hunting in the swamps of Louisiana, we love ducks, we love to eat ducks. There is nothing like a top rated team from the west coast, to ignite a rivalry in the LSU football team.
LSU's played Oregon before, and you know the history of those games. So the Louisiana boys and girls who're fighting tiger football fans are heating up in more ways then one, to go play the Oregon ducks on the big stage, in the Dallas Cowboy's stadium, September 3rd 2011... Duck hunting season.
We're going to have a better team then before, you will soon find that out. Rivalry? Don't worry about rivalries, you have to many games to play before you get to your conference natural rivalry. Just think about beating LSU come September, that's as good advice as you'll get.

I heard stories and stories about how LSU fans are the worst to others and will do things such as: Throw bottles at the other fans, pee in cups and throw that at other fans, spit at other fans, are very vulgar to other fans.
Yeah, there's a lot of exaggeration there, but then again...
But that's generally true, we're not nearly as gracious to fans of other SEC teams as OOC fans. However, from all that I've heard, WVU fans may not be the best ones to ask about the hospitality of other fans - I understand they have quite a reputation as well. I read on one of their boards that some of their fans are a little worried that Tiger fans may not be as well received in Morgantown as they were in Baton Rouge last year. Another fan base you may want to ask about their experience with LSU would be Virginia Tech fans. They seemed to have had a great time overall down here.

I have seen some level of great oddness

Yeah, that's us.
But as far as national perception of the gameday/tailgating experience at LSU, the Tigers generally rank up around #1 or #2 (depending on the bias of the writer)...
Espn ranks the best tailgating experience: LSU #1
Bleacher Report ranks game day atmosphere: LSU #2
Sports Illustrated ranks game day atmosphere: LSU #2
Trev Alberts has this to say:
If you give the LSU fans all day to "prepare" - shall we say - it can be a bit of an interesting atmosphere and a rowdy environment, to say the least. There's something about night games at that stadium. How many times have you watched games at night there, even when they weren't great and they knocked off top teams? Something weird happens to the players there at night.
MSNBC has LSU #4
Fanblogs.com also has LSU #2
Coed Magazine puts LSU #2
For a comprehensive look from an outsider's perspective, go here, lots of pictures and descriptions of the various food items. He sums it up:
Overall, I was incredibly impressed with what I found at LSU. With this being the 9th stop on the tour, the expectations of what I would see were quite high. These expectations were exceeded in what I found. Thanks again to Jay, Scott, and everyone else I met while tailgating in Baton Rouge. I can’t wait to tailgate again at Tiger Stadium this weekend.

UM fans literally hate LSU with a passion
OM fans/alum think they are better than everyone else. They have this superiority complex/frat boy preppie attitude, probably because in MS anyone that can read is a big deal. It's mostly envy of some sort b/c OM never wins anything but they can't admit they aren't good enough so they have to hate on someone else.

All their school chants have "go to hell LSU in them
We have one with OM in it too, as well as Bama.

Still ticked off about a cancellation of a home/home series decades ago. Then, they got all big mouthed about the Cotton Bowl.. we know how that turned out.
Duck hunting on Sept 3rd ! What kind of duck is an Oregon duck anyway ?

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but OP needs to learn the difference between brake and break. WTF are they teaching you at UO?
I am a life long LSU fan who lives in the NW. Just so everyone is aware - Duck fans will make Ole Piss fans look like boy scouts. They are generally hated around the PAC 10. They have terrible uniforms and do thtat whole gay OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO thing. They have been known to throw beer bottles and other random objects at opposing teams and fans. Duck fans have also been known to go into opposing stadiums and start fights, etc. If you are going to Dallas you have been warned. Duck fans suck.
On a different note - I went to the LSU/UW game and the city of Seattle RAVED about how awesome all of the LSU fans were. I also have to say that the UW fans were gracious in defeat and Really cool when we were out and about around the city...

I went to that game. Pretty good experience all around. Beautiful campus and nice people.
The only negative thing that happened was some UW chick literally ran off with my bottle of liquor after I graciously offered her a swig. Seriously, WTF? I didn't chase her, as we had plenty more.

Oh yeah, and I was definitely schooled in the UW-UO hatred in Seattle. I went to one bar where they had stuck the UO logo on all the urinals.

At the moment, LSU just has a bunch of small rivalries that are shallow and ephemeral, with no genuine big rivalries. We do play Arkansas for "The Golden Boot" every Thanksgiving weekend though, so I guess that's worth something.
You gotta admit, these games have been nothing short of fierce. And we play for a trophy. That means legit rivalry imo.

Such a thing changes with the seasons and years and maybe lately it has been Arky or Bama or such. I am meaning Rival in the terms of is there a team that LSU fans detest, that they hate on?
LSU fans (at least the ones who are over 25 years old) truly detest Ole Mrs. and Bama. There are no other answers.

I remember when LSU-Tulane or Ole Miss were really big deals, but today my real detestation is for either Bama or Auburn....

I live in Birmingham so I basically look forward to us kicking bama's arse. Its always been Bama for me personally.

Who is LSU's biggest Rival?
Whatever team in the West that stands our way of winning the SEC.
For the past few years it's been Bama, before that it was Auburn. Historically I guess you could say Ole Miss is the closest thing we have to a "rival"
Posted on 6/13/11 at 12:22 pm to DucksflyinPAC
Used to be Ole Miss, because in the late 50's and early 60's they were vying with each other for the MNC every year. Stayed a pretty intense rivalry through the 60's and well into the 70's, then Ole Miss football fell even further off a cliff than LSU's did, and it stopped being relevant. These days it's probably 'Bama, for much the same reason (vying for SEC-West titles), but since we play Florida every year due to the screwed-up SEC inter-divisional scheduling system, that's a fairly strong rivalry as well. But no traditional rivalry that still has legs, like OU-OSU (or Michigan-Ohio State).
