Not LSU related per se, but hopefully they leave it here as it pertains to college athletics overall. College sports is dead. It’s over.

The senior has completed 21 of 48 passes for 318 yards and six touchdowns with one interception for the Rebels (3-0) this season. He also has rushed 39 times for 286 yards and a score.

In a 23-20 win over Kansas on Sept. 13, Sluka led the Rebels on an 18-play, 75-yard drive that ended with Kylin James scoring on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line with 1:51 left. Sluka rushed for 113 yards in the game.

quote:

I committed to UNLV based on certain representations that were made to me, which were not upheld after I enrolled," Sluka posted on X. "Despite discussions, it became clear that these commitments would not be fulfilled in the future. I wish my teammates the best of luck this season and hope for the continued success of the program."

If he is right that the deal wasn’t upheld by the team, then he did not quit on the team; they quit on him.

In situations like this, school should be able to deny redshirt status.

Before all the dumb comments, we will never know what wasn’t fulfilled. It’s an easy out to say. Guy quit on his teammates.

I agree. Even handshake deals should be honored.

Schools can't deny redshirt status. That's a player's decision with clear NCAA parameters.

That’s why I said “in this situation”. NIL is totally out of control. For all we know, guy could have just hated that he agreed to a lowball deal and wanted a bigger one.

I’m all for some form of compensation, just gotta figure out a better way

The mob withheld the NIL dollars due to a 40% completion rate.

They won't though. It will continue going in the wrong direction. Ultimately the fans will be the ones to pay for it, and at some point they gonna say no more...and then they are all screwed. I agree on the better way...but this was a dem backed proposal through congress if I'm not mistaken....and everything they touch turns to shite.

They went from magical season and possible playoff berth to dead in the water over night because of NIL money.

I really hope that this wasn't due to a NIL deal with another school that is fricking disgusting.

If they are failing to deliver on compensation to their employees, do they not deserve it?

And what should the player's recourse be should it play out the school is completely in the wrong? Should they owe him what they promised plus interest? Should they be banned from continuing to give NIL deals they don't honor? Let's not lose sight of who the bad guys are in NIL. It's the schools. 2 billion restitution for 100s of billions in profit over the last century seems to imply they got off light.

Not sure about his situation but this will be or is a future problem. These are professional players now who are paid good money and given a free education . Some thing has to be done ; contracts have to be upheld or stipulate if paid can not transfer to another team for a year etc.

NIL was enabled by a Supreme Court ruling, not any federal legislation. The laws governing NIL are state by state right now, but the ruling specifically forbids limiting the earning potential of student athletes, so any legislation or NCAA rule that has come close has been shot down.

Everyone has agents now, no one is doing handshake deals.

frick off with this bullshite. It has to go both ways. Are any pro athletes able to renegotiate with another team and leave in the middle of a fricking season? How does that allow for any kind of competitive balance or stability in the sport?

If players are going to be paid directly, that has to come with rules and regulations like contracts and minimum commitment periods. Right now, no one is able to do this because of how short-sighted the Supreme Court was in its ruling. What is happening with NIL and the portal right now will not work long-term.

For any of you crying about the past and how this is somehow justified- I couldn’t give less of a frick. The sport is not going to survive what is happening at the moment without some serious contraction. If that’s what you are in favor of, then you are going to hurt future players with far less access and opportunity at the highest level of the college football.

If the schools have to abide by a new set of rule, then the players are going to have to have them, as well. Anyone who’s been following all this since before NIL and the portal knows that the nuclear option to fix it is and I can guarantee you the players are going to like it as much. But if shite like this keeps happening, we are headed for a college football league with no connections to universities, no NCAA governance, a players union, strict contracts with a min number of years attached and salary caps.

I remember MJ Morris doing this last year (?) at NC State before he ultimately transferred. We are past the point of return with this shite unfortunately.

It seems like to me he’s finding out his name image and likeness simply isn’t as valuable as he thinks it is.

Seems like no one is lining up to get him in commercials or autographs etc which is what NIL is supposed to be.
