I don't care who we play. ULL or Houston is good. I'd love for a revenge game but it's also nice to show ULL why they're so irrelevant to LSU.

Wrong but don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Next you take basketball. USL was the basketball program of the state. How the hell do you think the Cajundome got built?

Wait a minute. The Cajundome broke ground in 1982 and opened in 1985. Are you saying USL basketball was bigger than LSU basketball when Dale Brown was at the peak of his career?
Dude, you know you're in trouble when you have to make up shite to support your argument.

All of that crap is why ULL just needs to get beat twice. Nobody wants to deal with their "hey what about us, we're big tyme guys" fan base.

No Tulane beat you to it when they were UL in 1847.

There's also a lot of animosity towards LSU because the state removed the Phd program in Computer Science from ULL and gave it to LSU.

Dr Ray Authement who was a visionary in the field of Computer Science as far back as the 50s began it at USL. While students were still standing in line to sign up for courses every semester at LSU, USL students were turning in their course selections at the end of the semester, and received their upcoming schedules along with their grades a few weeks later. This was in the early 70s.

A few years later the Legislature removed the doctorate program from USL and gave it to LSU.

How would you feel if that happened to you?

BTW I'm an huge LSU fan, but I think a lot of you folks are not aware of the history.

Huey Long also was pretty rough on USL, at a time when not many students had the money to attend LSU because of the distance. They could commute to USL.

So there's a lot to the story that I think a lot of LSU folks don't know about.

I think the poster is referring to the fact that in the 1970's USL was the program in the state, not in the 1980's. USL went to the NCAA's in 1972 and 1973. They won their first games against Marshall in 1972 and their first game against Houston in 1973, but lost in the Sweet 16 to Louisville in 1972 and Kansas State in 1973. After the 1973 season they were placed on probation and received a two year death penalty.

What stopped all these Cajun fans from going to LSU? If Huey Long stole of of UL-L's good programs, why don't the graduates from Eunice just follow the good programs to Baton Rouge?

I'm talking about a 50 year time span.
Long was famous for sending his derelict supporters to different state institutions as seat warmers.

This was during the depression, many folks barely scraped up enough money to attend college. They had to commute. Would you like to commute from Eunice to Baton Rouge before I-10?

The computer science deal happened during the early 80s when Wharton was Chancellor at LSU.

I'm talking about in 2015. What's stopping the graduates from New Iberia from choosing to attend LSU?

You're always trying to be something that you'll never be. That's obnoxious. We don't do that.

Yes because I'm sure that if the roles were reversed, and your school had had the foresight to see the most important technological breakthrough in the history of man, and have it's program taken away from it, because another school woke up 50 years later to the fact, you wouldn't resent that at all would you?

As I said, I pull for both teams. I grew up going, and listening to LSU football. I think there's no experience like Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night.

I'm just trying to shed a little light on the history, that some of you may be too young to be aware of.

I actually went to ULL 13 years ago. It's one of the main reasons why I can't stand a lot of their fans. Most of them know none of this stuff you just said.

Who knows? Maybe some are drawn to the underdog? Maybe they like the people better.

All I did was try to explain the "animosity", though I will say I've attended UL games, and at the tailgates they will be watching the LSU game on big screens, and for the most part cheer for LSU.

I didn't know it was mandatory that one attend LSU.

...and here we go.

I know all the stories and the reasons why there should be animosity. I still don't get it. LSU is the flagship university. I do not have any reason the be mad about that. ULL is finally starting to get the ball rolling on financing and fundraising and good things are happening.

Like I said. its a great place. I loved going there. I wish more ULL folks would focus on what we are instead of what we aren't. We dont have to be the flagship or on the same "level" as LSU to be a successful university and athletic program.
