It doesn't matter if you hate it. This statement is largely true.

I know, for example, that there are students who want to study pharmacy who can't do it at LSU, because it's not offered here, so they go to the University of Louisiana - Monroe.

But don't kid yourself. I'm all but certain the average UL-L, Nicholls or McNeese student would love to be at LSU instead... but simply can't be there due to grades, funds or inconvenience.

All things being equal with regard to funds and location, why study engineering at UL-L when you could study engineering at LSU? Why study mass communication at UL-L when you could study mass communication at LSU? Why study accounting at UL-L when you could study accounting at LSU?

I don't know anybody in their right mind who would take that deal.

Since ULL can do, so can ULM. ULM is dropping the M and declaring to be the "flag ship school" of LA. What the hell makes ULL think they are the only school in the University of Louisiana system?

Did anyone claim that any school other than LSU was the "Flagship School"?

What polling are you pulling this from? Just because you wanted to go to LSU doesn't mean that everyone else does. If anything they're glad that they have a nearby university so that they don't have to go to LSU.

Get over yourselves.

"...What the hell makes ULL think they are the only school in the University of Louisiana system?..."

I can't blame the Cajuns for wanting the title UL in the ULS. I also can't blame any within the ULS or state who voiced opposition to them obtaining the title. Both sides made their play and one side won and one side didn't. That's life...win some, lose some.

I do tire of the 25 yrs after the fact, but each to our own.

Wow really this has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard on the rant Tulane is far superior historically than UL laf is in athletics

Well maybe in Basketball
Basketball tourney appearances

But you are very wrong in baseball Tulane has historically been the second best in the state
ULL NCAA tourney appearances 11
UL-L tourney apps

Tulane tourney app 19
Tulane tourney app

As for football
Tulane all time 484-565-38 .4452 win pct
9 conference championships in Div I A football
conf champs

UL-laf all time 466-496-31 .4688 win pct
3 conference championships in Div I A footabll if you count the Big West titles the others are not in Div I A conferences
Conf titles

Also Tulane has had two undefeated seasons in 1929 and 1998 UL Laffy has never done that and Tulane has had three 10+ win seasons 1931, 1934, and 1998 UL-Laffy has never had one. Tulane has had more bowl appearances as well. Sorry as far as sports go Tulane historically is second best.

I went to LSU for a year. I decided to transfer to USL. Not because I couldn't make the grades, or I couldn't afford it.
I preferred the smaller school feel. I will always prefer Lafayette to Baton Rouge. The people are much more friendly and laid back. And I appreciate the Acadien culture. Not to mention the professors in my field were generally more respected.

Sure, I missed out on some of the athletic events (even though I still continued to go to LSU games occasionally).
But I don't regret my decision at all.

Still point is made because to lay claim to a name that was and is officially and originally Tulane's name and make a comment justifying that claim through sports would allow for Tulane to be included in the comversation

Here's the name link

to take this conversation outside of the state...

no out-of-state student with great grades and a good head on their shoulders even knows about ULL.

LSU, although it doesn't have a top-flight reputation, at least can offer incredibly competitive scholarships, a first-rate honors college, and a diverse set of degree programs in a research setting. just compare RESEARCH rankings. LINK LSU and the LSU Health Sciences Center both rank above ULL in research funding--separately.

(On a side note, I've always thought that LSU did itself a disservice by not including the med school and the law school with the main campus because of the possibilities of combined power.)

I don't know about that, but you're right that ULL isn't the kind of school that attracts interest from competitive high schoolers, in much the same way that I didn't consider Arkansas State or North Texas, and let's face it, ULL's pretty much on their level in terms of overall prestige.

Thank you. I got accepted into LSU and ULM back in 2003 as a transfer student. I was going to pick ULM over LSU because of location. I still have family in NELA and my grandma's home which is empty at the moment is only 20mi away in Rayville. I didn't want to live in Baton Rouge. I don't like the city life, dealing with traffic, crime, etc. I decided to finish my education up here in Missouri to be closer to family in friends in this area. But believe me I would of gone to ULM over LSU because of location. Tuition wasn't a problem.

The entire fight to get UL to add the laffy part to its name was ridiculous in my opinion.

Coming from PA, we have both penn state and university of penn. We can easily tell the two apart, and one school does not mind that the other school has the name.

Frankly, LSU should be ashamed of themselves. ULL being called UL really wouldn't effect them at all. Let them call themselves UL. Why the heck should LSU care?

LSU and UL could both survive and be fine. Making them call themselves ULL was just petty in my opinon.

Think about it. If ULL could become UL, being in the UL system, it would be the de facto "flagship" of a bigger system, population-wise than the LSU System. Pretty cool!
