Would you agree Ed left the program in FAR WORSE condition than UGA was left by Richt?
Perhaps, but Kirby did not have the benefit of the transfer portal, free transfer, and NIL.
This is the issue with Kelly. He has had the easiest path to rebuild a team over coaches from well before him.

yeh there are plenty of coaches like them out there huh?
Which one should LSU have hired?
My post was in response to your request for examples of championships in Year 2. I gave you examples, and other posters also mentioned Kirby Smart and Sonny Dykes.
Great coaches can make big progress, almost immediately.

it was a legitimate question...i didn't know the answer but knew the list would be short. I wouldn't put Saban in there bc it was yr 3 for Saban and the original post was 2 years.
Now answer my question who should we have hired?

Georgia has been stacked with elite talent for years under Richt. He didn't have to rebuild like Kelly has had to.. It's apples to oranges. They have had qbs transfer out and start for major D1 programs...that's how much talent Georgia has

Bobby Bowden
Bob Stoops
Tommy Bowden (Tulane)

Bobby Petrino (Louisville)

Kelly made it to the SEC championship in year 1
Beat Bama when Bama had their greatest QB in history in year 1.
He did all this despite arriving to the program and only having a couple egg cartons of scholarship players.
But everyone wants to burn it down and start over everytime a damn coach loses a damn game at LSU.
Who the heck is gonna come and coach at LSU when they realize that a loss will mean you lose your job?
Let’s look at games Saban lost against big name teams.
Texas, Virginia Tech, Iowa.
Miles?
Bama a few times. Florida a few times, ole miss a few times, miss state, Georgia, Auburn a few times. Penn state, notre dame, Wisconsin.
Orgeron.
Multiple SEC teams and Troy.
But Kelly loses to a top 10 FSU who has shown improvement every year under their current coach, so let’s fire his arse.

JD is an athlete that plays QB. Nuss is QB that will ball.

What year do we start fielding kicks cleanly? Is that year 3 or 4?

elite coaches can build championship level rosters in year 2 at schools that can attract the talent.
Show me a coach who won a championship in year 2.
I’ll save you the google. Saban did it in 3. Kirby in 5. Relax

BK literally said " we are going to go and beat the crap out of FSU."
After the game "we are not the team i thought we were."

You didn’t say anything about winning a national championship. You said “championship level rosters.” Every single one of those coaches flipped their roster & culture well enough by year 2 that they were competing for championships.
You also didn’t say anything about coaches available to hire. You asked for examples of coaches who built championship level rosters in 2 years.
English is hard, but words mean things. You’re either moving goal posts, or not communicating very well.

If we’re just talking national championships:
Jim Tressel
Bob Stoops
Urban Meyer
But other coaches experienced tremendous success at the national level in year two. Pete Carroll, Nick Saban, Gary Patterson, Mark Richt, Kirby Smart, etc.
