He seems to have eliminated the occassional 5 loss seasons that Miles was starting to have, but he hasn't raised the ceiling of 10 wins. In fact, if he doesn't win the bowl, he will have attained two 9-4 seasons - NOT what we're paying for.

There's nothing we can do about who the offensive coordinator is, or even if Aranda is retained, but we can insist on improvement. In my opinion, Orgeron needs to step it up next year. Look at what we have potentially coming back.

Our entire offense less the tight end and right guard (who was second string at the beginning of the year). We have one senior on defense - Battle. There are about four juniors who could crediblly go pro: Rashard, Greedy, White and Fulton. There's not much Orgeron can do about White and Greedy, but he needs to retain the others somehow.

That is an extremely powerful team coming back with a very good QB. He has to make the playoffs next year or come awfully close. If he doesn't do that next year I doubt he ever will, and we would need to replace him.

We are exactly where we were with Miles.

Winning 9-10 games, with a shitty offense. He has done enough to not be fired, but not enough to where we can be hopeful about the future of the program with him leading it.

looks like on the verge of an extension and raise! Went 9-3, 3rd in west, putrid offense, every thing the previous staff was fired for, but he's about to be rewarded.

This program, media and some fans have really lowered expectations and moved the goalpost since miles was fired.

Yeah status quo. But what did we actually expect? We promoted our defensive line coach to HC and tight ends coach to OC. The staff and culture within the program largely stayed unchanged.

Almost exactly where I anticipated. Not great but not bad. Certainly not an improvement over where we were in September 2016. What we do regarding offensive staff in the offseason will make or break his tenure here IMHO. Make sweeping changes and show a legit effort to finally modernize the offense and get out of the way and he may have a chance to have some real success here.

I thought we would be worse off with O but he's kept us pretty consistent with what Miles was doing.

About where Miles stood.

Orgeron has done well for what a reasonable person could expect from him. But the main issue is it doesn’t appear to be able to take the program back to the level of Alabama, where we were 5-10 years ago.

It sucks that they are our benchmark, but they play in our damn division and I think it is prudent at this point to try and catch them rather than let them fall, who knows when that may be.

I dont think O has brought harm to the program like many feared. He has kept up recruiting and keeping a brand. But I don’t think at this point we can reasonably say it will be enough to challenge the best.

Easy solution for me is to hire Aranda as HC depending on how the next 12 months go because the next step is to blow up the program and let another HC start over.

IMO in 2017 we did less with more and 2018 we have done more with less.

Are we certain that this method even works? Do they have a team that has had tons of recent success with a head coach that just "got out of the way?" Most of the really successful programs I can think of, or at least programs on the rise, have a coach that is heavily involved in at least one side of the ball, then hires a really good coach to run the other. That seems to be what works. That is also something we will NEVER have with Orgeron as our head coach.

A top 5 recruiting class and progression in wins and losses.

His only failure IMO is his handling of the offense.

ETA: I take that back. We have a CHANCE at progression in the win loss column. I assumed a bowl win.

Of course not. I just think it's our only shot at real success under O.

No argument from me here.

This is exactly why we would've been better off with Herman and/or even Fisher. They would've likely cleaned house of the Miles leftovers.

He had 4 last year, possibly 4 again this year. And Miles wasn’t starting to have 5 loss seasons. He had them in 08 and 14.

OK I take that back. He has a chance for progression in wins and losses. But he's progressed in recruiting.

It's amazing the revisionist history people have written about Miles. It was time to move on but you'd think we were regularly winning 3 games a year with how people talk about his last few years.

Not an O pumper.

2017. 6-2 sec
2018 5-3 sec

11-5 total as full time HC in sec.

Not bad honestly given what Miles left along LOS.

3rd year will tell A LOT.

No good reason for some crazy extension right now. But that’s apparently going to happen with Alleva. Sadly the BOS will rubber stamp it.
