"We can conclude that 44% of the variation in a team’s winning percentage can be explained by their turnover differential. This shows that turnovers are not overvalued when it comes to winning percentage.

LINK (I think the SEC is similar to the NFL in this regard)

Ole Miss beat Alabama. Alabama had 5 turnovers; Ole Miss had 0.

Alabama beat Georgia. Georgia had 4 turnovers; Alabama had 2.

Florida beat Ole Miss. Ole Miss had 4 turnovers; Florida had 0.

Toledo beat Arkansas. Arkansas had 1 turnover; Toledo had 0.
Arkansas beat Tennessee. Tennessee had 1 turnover; Arkansas had 0.

Clemson beat Notre Dame. Notre Dame had 4 turnovers; Clemson had 0.

**********

LSU Offense: 0 fumbles. 1 interception.

LSU Defense: 1 fumble recovery. 5 interceptions

LSU is currently 14th in the nation with a +1.25 TO margin per game.

Remaining opponents:

Florida: 16th (+1.20)
A&M: 48th (+0.40)
Carolina: 58th (+0.20)
Alabama: 58th (+0.20)
Arkansas: 58th (+0.20)
Ole Miss: 69th (0.00)

One thing you cant deny about Les. Hes not flashy but he knows the formula for winning. There was a stat I read where we were -6 in turnovers in 04 and by 2007 LSU was +20. Slowly rising each year he was here. Now obviously 2008 probably looks like shite, but im sure it got back up after that.

PENALTIES worry, not turnovers.
We are an undisciplined team w penalties.
# 113 out of 128
This tells me that our coaches do not practice with discipline.
Practice does not make perfect, Perfect practice makes perfect.
Whatever you do at practice will show up at the game.

Turnovers are important as in they are usually an indicator of overall performance and can greatly swing momentum..
You play sloppy. you're going to lose the ball.
You play sound football you're probably going to be in the position to steal it on occasion.
It can only go so far though.
We were +1 on turnovers against Auburn last year (0 to 1) and lost by 34.

That's so dumb. Our coaches are disciplined enough to teach these kids how to perfect different blocking schemes and things of that nature but they just decide not to do the same with penalties? We've had several personal foul penalties for participating without a helmet. You think the players aren't coached not to do that. Sometimes 18-22 year old kids mess up. It's that simple.

Turnovers are mostly a function of line play. If your offensive line is being whipped your backs are being hit in the backfield before they have time to secure the ball. And your QB is under pressure so he is apt to fumble or throw interceptions. So yeah, if you're losing the line of scrimmage you'll likely have mire turnovers and lose.
