The option play in and of itself has had limited success but the offensive coaches feel the benefit they get in defensive alignment is worth having it in the playbook and running it 5/6 times a game. Miles said that running the option causes the defense to widen out their alignment and is a benefit to our offense. I will defer to the coaches on this since they have years of game film to back up this assertion.
i won't defer anything to this coaching staff. they haven't proven they can do anything right except recruit

Miles always had mobile qb's at okie except for Josh fields.
Miles is bound and determined to make the option work at lsu with Jefferson running it.
If anything get shep running it or an option QB that has a 3-4 play throwing package as well.

So at best it's a 5 yard gain, at worst its a turnover.
The option sets up other plays. If you can get 3-5yds on the option and make D react to it, you can get 50yd TDs runs catching OLBs flowing the wrong way. Notice how easy Shep's runs are.

THIS
"False with Perriloux running it, true with Jefferson."
JJ just hasn't shown that he graspes the concept of the option.

we have so many weapons to run the option man. Why can't we run the spread option? We could create so many mismatches.
I'm looking at you BG.

While Crowton is horrible about when to call it and consistently calling it to the short side, the bigger issue is that we are trying to run it from the shotgun and JJ drops back even further to start the option off.
The option QB has to get lateral and then forward quickly, but instead our QBs go back then lateral then up field and shorten the field for the RB that can receive the pitch.
RP was a true dual threat QB and had experience running the option. JJ is not a running QB, but simply a QB that has some agility and a little speed. He doesn't make cuts crisply and doesn't change direction well at all. He runs like JR did in 2006 to me but just a little less stiff since he's not carrying 260 lbs.
