C'mon, never defer to the coaches. You know better than they do.

True.

He didn't run much of it at LA Tech. Why here? And what is so innovative and unstoppable about the option?

it wasnt

RP ran it well. He understood the spacing.

Jefferson runs it too straight line. Actually, a lot like his throws. He doesnt understand "touch" or "feel".

I remember RP running it, he would sag a little in the backfield, which would still draw a defender too him, but he would put the RB in a better situation, and still pitch it off for yardage.

Jefferson is just horrible at it, and rarely pitches it. And he goes down on 1st contact nearly EVERY time

Running the option the last three years has been absolutely mind-numbing. It's incomprehensibly bad.

Gary, please, turn the page in the playbook to the option...RIP IT OUT...TEAR IT UP...THROW IT AWAY.

Over the last two years the option has done nothing but lost yards every time.

If you have any illusions that it will work...go smoke some rope and forget about it.

My problem is that this offense is so inept as it is, and then you add to it using this option play. The play goes for negative yardage half the time(23 out of 47 apparently). So we put ourselves in 2nd and long and 3rd and long with this play way too much.

Not to mention we've fumbled the option the past two games (very lucky we recovered both times). It's going to take a fumble recovery by the defense returned for 6 points for the coaches to finally not call it again. But you never know with Crowton, that might make him more determined to make it work.

I even think RP was overrated at the option. He started coming in only for the purpose of running it and it was to stop after that.

I think the coaches might be confused about Jefferson's running ability.

He has decent straight line speed for a quarterback, but he is not an instinctive runner, whether it is scrambling or running the option.

we remember the big plays, but we got stuffed a good bit, esp when RP wasn't in

plus, it was more non-spread option. now our option is pretty much exclusively run from the spread

I will defer to the coaches on this since they have years of game film to back up this assertion.

the offensive results speak for themselves

he went to UO when it was becoming popular, and he added it. i assume he knew little about option ball then, and is still learning it

False. RP running the option helped us win the BCS National Championship. Epic Win.

Andrew Hatch and Jordan Jefferson running the option, not so much.

I am going with true on this one. I can't remember the last time that the LSU option did not look completely deformed. I am not saying to nix it completely, but it is adding nothing to the offense right now.

Every play has been stuffed at one point or another. There is no magical play that is unstoppable or every team would run it every down.

Like the option at Nebraska.

True. It is not just Jefferson's fault that we don't run the option well. The whole offense is out of whack when we run it. The QB needs to be cutting upfield rather than running laterally or backwards, but the blocking is insufficient for him to do so. The defensive ends almost always penetrate into our backfield on the option and Jefferson is forced to run around them. By this time, the linebackers and corners have come up to pressure Jefferson and cover the running back.
