#LSU freshman WR Trey Palmer is now listed on the official roster for the track-and-field team, and he will run for the Tigers this season.

he needs to also run kickoffs/punts back for football next year and see an increase in playing time

Palmer is better suited to run one back, Stingley seemed more sure-handed I guess? My thoughts are the staff saw no reason to risk a turnover going for a big play with an offense as potent as ours.

Derek Stingley straight up said that Palmer was the only guy in HS camps that ever gave him trouble with his speed.

Hopefully he or Boutte runs with that slot role next year. It would be nice to have a burner that can house slants and crossing routes at any time in that role.

Have you ever seen Stingleys HS film? Also at every camp a Derek was faster than Trey.

The staff didn’t pick a safe choice. They picked the best one.

I’d like him to return kicks. Stingley isn’t honey badger back there, no reason to risk him getting hurt. Just look at Jason Sehorn with the Giants.

Stingley was lackluster at PR all season while Palmer housed one of his few opportunities. That leads me to believe that Palmer muffed a few in practice and they didn’t fully trust him to hang on to the ball.

I hope running track won't take too much time away from the jug machines and 10,000 catches.

ETA: thread hijack...

To be fair, Palmer also did it late in the game vs scrubs.

I choose to believe Stingley is the best option, but for whatever reason, we just don’t seem to put him in position to succeed.

For those of you old enough to remember, think back to Domanick Davis and Skyler Green (among others in that not so long ago era). We used to double the gunners. Then the PR guy only had to make one guy miss and it was to the house. Don’t understand why that concept is so difficult to implement again.

Just doesn’t look like Stingley is that comfortable on ST.
Time to keep him from unneeded hits.

That all may be true but I sure liked how easy Trey made it look on that PR for a TD he had this past season. Hopefully we see a more aggressive approach to KR an PR this coming year, would love to see what Stingley and Palmer could do in both return games.

Think they played safe on PR this year because of the offense being so prolific that they didn't want to give up possessions in case of a turnover in the return game.

Mathieu was the last really good returner ( 15.6/ return and 2 TDS) and right before him, Peterson was really good (16.1 yards/return and 2 TDS) but they are at the end of your 10 year question. Chark didn't do too bad also and was most recent returner with decent success. Avg./ return was 10.6 yards and had 2 TDs
