Yeah, I didn't get that either Bubba. So a team that didn't make the NIT the year before was a Sweet 16 team? O.K.
Look I remember when he was hired thinking, I really would have liked a younger up and coming guy, like the guy at Xavier, Drew at Baylor or the guy Bama got. I think we tried to get the Bama guy..not sure if we tried for the other two.
Then I too said, "well he took over an established program at Stanford." So I was still skeptical.
Then I looked at Nevada. He took over a program in pretty bad shape and built steadily to a Sweet 16. So he's done it from scratch.
Again, the jury's still out on if he can do it here IMHO, but some folks have hung him already. And frankly that's the nature of the beast.

The rebuilding argument is getting old. Explain to me how you rebuild a program and you sign chris bass, and eddie ludwig. In three years TJ has signed one maybe two d1 players. This is the worst LSU bb team I have ever seen and no one to really be excited about next year. Losing to Nicholls state, Coastal Carolina, N Texas State and going to overtime to McNeese State is okay if your ULL but not at LSU. WTF are we doing here. I have never seen a coach not sign one descent player in two years, ralston turner can play other than him the rest of these kids are projects and cannot play in the SEC. Louisiana has some serious talent coming out in the next few years and from what I understand we are not in the running on any of these kids. I still cannot figure out why we didn't go after Langston Gallaway. This is worst than when Brady took over a probation team. Three years in we should be in a lot better shape. I just don't see it happening with this guy.

Suppose I'm a 5* recruit and you're the head coach at LSU. Sell me your program in 6 sentences or less. GO!

supposedly that is why we got TJ- he would be able to recruit players Brady could not and build his team-

Well first of all TJ not having one guy on his staff with LSU ties or Louisiana ties is a huge mistake. You have to have relationships with people who can help you get these kids and from what I understand he has no connections in that way. Everyone knows it is a different world in this state and it is up to the coach to figure out what it takes to get it done. I am not sure if TJ understands what it takes to get a 5 star player. Brady was smart enough to have Butch Pierre and stay close to Collis Temple. I asked one of Tj's assistants a couple of years ago if they were recruiting Langston Gallaway and he told me they didn't think he was good enough..really. I couldn't believe that, he is better than any one TJ has signed so far.

Lopez twins, but who wouldn't want to get a degree at Stanford? A paper from LSU, maybe not as much.

Trent is definitely deserving of some criticism, but to say Dotson, Stringer, White, Derenbecker and Courtney are not D1 players is idiotic, especially considering most are freshmen.
His class from last year was ranked in the Top 25.
And Bass? He's basically a walk on and will give up his scholarship if needed. Any criticism of him is off base.

White's a transfer there is a reason he transferred, maybe the kid from Iowa can play transferrs usually don't work out. Derenbecker is to slow, can't coach slow. Turner can play, Stringer is a project, up to this point Turner is the only real player I see. Okay so we are going to give TJ 2 more years to see if any of these kids can play when they are juniors. GOOD LUCK.

I can give you 2.4 million reasons why he'll be here for two more years. Deal with it.

Ultimately, I don't think a rebuilding argument can be summarily dismissed until given a legitimate chance. The concept of rebuilding in and of itself requires time.
Players can actually improve significantly. Look at Kemba Walker at UCONN. Tell me you saw this year coming after his freshman year.
I actually think Stringer has some upside. O'Bryant is a national recruit coming in next year.
Again, I'm not saying Trent's plan will work. I hope it does. I too have my concerns.

You're talking like it's my decision. I wish I had that kind of power.

Fair argument. He did have the former La. Tech head coach on his staff the first two years. Hopefully some La. ties were born through him.
He did get the kid from Pickering who has some talent, but he's got an injury and may be another Dotson.
He liked Turner better than the Louisiana choices at the position and I think he might be right there.
Bottom line he should be held accountable if improvement and development aren't realized this year and next.
I hope it's not as bleak as your fears.

One question for you: has LSU ever been as bad under Dale Brown or John Brady as they are (so far in this season) under TJ?
TIA

not that I can recall, When Brady came in the first year they were as close to the death penalty as you can get and they weren't this bad. For TJ not to see this coming when he got here truly concerns me. He signed NO PLAYERS his first 2 years, that is unheard of.

I can tell you I can remember some teams under both that would not have competed against Memphis or Wichita as this on has. I garauntee it.
Heck a Witchita team probably not as good as this one lambasted JB's last team by 20.
Dale's second to last team lost to the likes of Athletes in Action, St. Louis by 9, Dayton by 13 and Jackson St.(yes Jackson State) by 11 and beat Centenary by two.
I remember Dale's last team losing to Brady's Samford team. I remember Brady losing to UNO, Centenary, Lamar.
I've seen worse teams under both than what this LSU teams. Let's watch the rest of the season and if this teams playing as bad at the end of the year as it has the past 4-5 then we'll talk some more.
I expect improvement this year and continued and significant improvement next year. If that's not realized I then will expect accountability and I will express that to the powers that be.

???
I guess technically his first year he didn't but he honored Brady's scholly offers to Storm, Harris, and Delwan Graham and added Chris Bass.
He ran off the biggest of those Brady commitments, the 4/5-star guy whe ended up going to UCLA cause he was going through one of those Sugar Daddy AAU pimps and they had their hands out. Turned out to be a good move as that cat ain't done shite since.
The next year he signed Ludwig and Dotson.
So I'm not getting where you are saying he signed no players unless you are saying no players that can play at the SEC level.
If that's the case I guess one could argue that. I was on record here as early as the beginning of last year asking if we could not have done better, APR and all other concerns noted, with Trent's first three real scholarship offers.
But that's spilled milk. He did recruit kids who can play at this level in his last class and in the class to come.
Let's see what happens.

Well shite I would hope so. They really can't get much worse as it stands.

I don't know if I can make it through the end of the season. I'm pretty much spent now. Watching the men play this year is as bad as watching a women's basketball game.

I would understand more if this was a football rebuilding job. It can happen faster for basketball. It just seems like we should be better in year three of the process.
A lot of perceptions are skewed by virtue of TJ winning the SEC with the Senior laden team Brady left behind. The cupboard was bare beyond that and then his 1st prize recruit blows a knee and should have been redshirted but played due to lack of numbers. This young team is capable as proven by their performance against three teams that will likely be in the dance; Memphis, WSU and Houston. The inconsistancy is bothersome but not unexpected starting a true freshman backcourt. The most troubling thing to me is the lack of aggression on defense and on the boards because those are as much about hustle and heart as they are about talent. If this team hits their stride and progresses as they should, next season should be fun with two very good additions coming on board to join them.

you've brought up trent running a "clean" program a few times. basically isn't this giving up on trying to have a good basketball team in college?
