not really...I know the numbers make it seem that way but building a consistent, competitive program in basketball is very difficult at a school where b-ball isn't strongly supported. Top local players don't necessarily grow up dreaming of playing for LSU like they do in football. If Duke, Kansas, UNC, etc. come calling, they're likely gone. You'll hit a homerun every few years with a Swift, or the Collis Temple connection, but a consistent contender is difficult.

This is total nonsense. I could take a mediocre team for 2 years to build a good team, but we have seen 2 years of utterly terrible basketball. I can't wait to hear all of you sunshine pumpers saying "I told you so" when this team improves, which is inevitable given how bad they suck right now.

So it's inevitable that they will get better? Awesome.

LSU has the stupidest fans in America. You, sir, are an idiot.

You obviously don't watch college basketball. Either you don't know about or don't remember TJ's teams at Nevada and Stanford. He's trying to build an entire program. Not bring in JUCOs that give you a roller coaster program with ups and downs. He's recruiting 3 and 4 years players with the thought that in the future there will never be a "down year" bc we'll have a consistent turnover of quality players.
We're not UK. We can't recruit the number one point guard in America. This is how you build and win at LSU. With guys like Stringer, Derenbecker and the other freshman and sophmores the future is bright. You are clueless about college basketball and the young talent we have.

I have a coworker who is a huge UK fan, all he kept saying to me was
'Lsu should be better than that'
I would say 'it's a rebuilding process'
His response would be
'2 wins in the SEC is terrible that coach has no idea what he is doing'

Why the hell would it take a basketball program 5 years to be rebuilt? Especially one like LSU. You can do it in a year or two easily in basketball. I'm not talking national titles, but competitive in the SEC and Sweet 16s should be attainable by year two or three.

Tennessee is not Kentucky and look at what Pearl did. Keep in mind he inherited a 14-17 basketball team.
Year 1: 22-8, 2nd Round
Year 2: 24-11, Sweet 16
Year 3: 31-5, Sweet 16
Year 4: 21-13, 1st Round
Year 5: 28-9, Elite 8
Year 6: 8-3
Basketball is not like football.

And look where Stanford is now, he really built the program up. He took a program that went 105-24 in the four seasons before he got there, went 80-48 in his four years and left them in shambles.

Should Johnny Dawkins have been the coach there though?
Stanford should have gotten an experienced guy instead of someone who has not coached before IMO.
And Stanford has been recruiting (Dwight Powell).

I agree Stanford could've done better, but Trent didn't leave him with much to work with honestly. Obviously any program will struggle after losing a tandem like the Lopez twins, I understand that and I'm not against LSU basketball at all, I just want the league to improve, and with your tradition, I believe you guys could very easily find a coach better than TJ.

You obviously don't watch college basketball. Wow, that's easy. Argument won, right?
You fricking schmucks can't argue the facts of the matter so you resort to ad hominem nonsense instead. This year's team is pitiful and if they don't improve by the end of the year, and I will probably change my judgment to "fire the bastard now." I have said all along that I would give him through next year, but I LSU hasn't been this bad in a very long time.
Derenbecker's not looking like much of a bright future if you ask me. You're a fricking douche if you can't handle opposing opinions.

Why would you go and ruin a perfectly retarded argument with things like facts?

He left Stanford after taking them to the sweet 16.

And he took over a sweet 16 team at LSU. I guess he peaks at the Sweet 16 then you can expect 2 years of utterly terrible basketball from his program.

I stated this several days ago that he inherited a stacked Stanford team that made 10 straight tourney trips. He didn't establish anything at Stanford. I was pleased when we got him but he hasn't shown me anything outside season one. Time to put up or shut up.

Trent deserves a lot of the criticism he gets, but this Stanford line of thought is idiotic.
And if you think he took over a Sweet 16 team at LSU, you need to do some fact checking.
