Somebody will take Waters in the 2nd round, and they're going to get a steal of a pick. His other attributes can help make up for his size.

He deserves a ton of credit for helping turn the program around as Wade's first piece of the puzzle. One of the most exciting players to watch in a long time at LSU. He will be missed.

quote:

ESPN analyst Mike Schmitz said on conference call on Thursday that LSU point guard Tremont Waters could work his way into the second round of the 2019 NBA Draft with a strong combine in Chicago. Thursday afternoon, Waters was doing just that with shooting drills as on-court activities got going and Waters was on fire from beyond the arc.

Waters checked into the NBA Combine at 5-10 3/4 (w/shoes), 172.4 pounds, 6-2 1/4 wingspan, 9.75 hand width (biggest hands among PGs) and 6.6 percent body fat. While the New Haven, Conn. native doesn't appear on too many mock drafts, a strong performance could help him climb into the second round.

"Tremont is a guy who cold really help himself these next couple of days at the combine because he's so gifted with the ball," Schmitz said on the call. "In this type of setting, guards who have the ball generally tend to thrive just because they have more freedom."

The skill is there. The physical issues are the concern. But surprisingly he tied for 3rd in max vertical leap (40.5 inche)

The height is the concern, but he dunked a few times here, and he also blocked a couple shots (rim blocks). That's impressive at 5'10.

I think the large hand size is a key for him. It doesn't adversely affect his shot, but it maximizes his ball handling. He could be a poor man's CP3 in the NBA, and that would earn him some cash.

If he goes to the right team, he can stick around. I think the Pels might actually be a good fit- you'd want him pushing the ball, breaking his man down, and throwing sweet passes to Zion (and AD if he's there still), and being pretty consistent on open 3's. You concede that he'd get overpowered near the basket on defense, and have a shot blocker behind him.
He'd bring the excitement to wherever he goes.

No one said he couldn't jump. But to test 3rd out of a group of the best college prospects in the country is unexpected.

Waters is going to make some team a very good second unit PG. might have to do a year or two in the G League. Someone on here says Isaiah Thomas. Probably close. Depends on team and unique need

I wouldn't get caught up in rankings, a 5'10 dude that can dunk is gonna have a 40 inch vertical. I just don't see how that's surprising.

Anybody that leaves to “work their way” into the second round must have a reason for doing so. I hope he “works” his way into the second round, but he could just as easily end up undrafted.

Is it troubling that Naz and he both abandoned ship with no expectation of being a first rounder and both are “hoping” to be second rounders?
