I'm just saying one is the coach and the other "traditionally" had a free tuition paid. Yea I know this is changing and is being redefined today but it's hard for me to switch gears and say sure it's ok to pay players and let them portal in/out during the middle of a game so to speak. You can't expect much more from the old crowd much different than this. You recruit to come play at a university and by the way this great coach is here right now. Until I think free school doesn't mean anything any longer then it's hard to look at it diff. And buy how fast this stuff is changing for the bad. I don't want to bother you with answering me back bc you have soooo many other posts to take care of. How do you post so much and still like breathe, sleep, and have a life??

Without the stipulation that a player has to sit out a year if he transfers, and without the stipulation that he cannot transfer to a team in the same conference, then the portal is a drastic mistake for the betterment of college football.
Make these players truly contemplate and seriously consider where they choose to go to school and play, without the option of up and leaving on a whim. Life is hard. Make them commit to something and give it their best effort. It is too easy to run away from or chase the money now that the NIL is part of the equation, which is just stupidity on top of stupidity imho.

I agree but Supreme Court does not. You have to get these kids to sign contracts to get the NIL money and then you got them.

Overall it seems good for the players. And obviously benefits some teams (e.g., Burrow, Mich St) in certain situations. But long term I think it contributes to a sense of chaos and uncertainty that undermines fans’ motivation to commit to supporting a team or sport (“product”) long-term. As with many things, the more $$ involved the more it becomes about those $$ for all concerned.

quote:I assume it's good. Why is it a worthy endeavor to restrict the mobility of college students just because they're athletes?
Transfer portal - good or bad for college football?
