True,but I don't recall in Smoke's 5 years missing Hoover twice,either.

True, but the first year Mainieri missed it was largely due to the mess Smoke left behind.

Are you trying to tell me LSU doesn't have enough talent in baseball?

I'm telling you they aren't as talented as the used to be, although still talented.

Don't overlook what had to be replaced in the last two seasons, i.e. DJ, J Mitch, Landry, Dean, Ochinko, Schimpf, Gibbs. Damn good players right there.

We'll be fine. Pitching next year may be as good as its ever been. Starting pitching that is.

And if Ott blows two less saves this team probably gets in.

Mainieri is going through a rough patch. He and LSU will be just fine very soon.

I hope so but what on Earth that's happened in the last two years indicates LSU is in good shape right now.

You can spin it however you wish but not making it to Hoover this year after last year's sloppy year is inexcusable.

I don't recall Smoke leading the team to a CWS championship.

While true, and also Smoke not recruiting as well as PM. Smoke bested Ray Tanner by a single game for best SEC Won-Loss marks of any SEC HC during his five years. Sans late '08's and all of '09's hard streaking, PM's SEC marks are not to LSU Baseball standards.

PM surely an upgrade to SL as HC, but neither come close to Skip, or even their contemporary Ray Tanner, in consistency.

He will get a chance to fix it, and rightfully so. If he doesn't he will be gone.

We have good young pitching and more on the way. We need more talented position players, and we have a bunch of new guys signed. We'll see what they can do.

Good starting pitching, arguably the best in the SEC next year if they progress from this year. New pitching and batting coaches(we can only pray) the return of some upperclassmen from injury who missed this year.

Pretty much looks like we're going to be Texas next year. Stick with excellent pitching, and try and push a few runs across.

Not at all.

The program was weakening under Smoke. That's not the case with Mainieri.

Did the committee choosing or not choosing LSU factor into making this thread?

Shouldn't have, when we don't host a regional 2 years in a row it needs to be started (and that was apparent many weeks ago).

When pm is doing the same thing as smoke it's a rough patch. Yet when smoke does it IRS driving the program into the ground

Lololololololol

For starters, you are clearly 12.

Did Smoke win the CWS?

Correct answer: No.

How is PM doing the same thing Smoke did?

except it is actually weakening under pm right now cws, national title then a 3 seed because of a miracle run, missing the tourny.

now we do have stud pitching but its all for not if paul doesn't fire his buddy javi.

next year should be the deciding year for paul.

how many down years should a baseball nc buy a coach at LSU?

Agreed. But, mostly based on the clout of having an CWS title winner as HC, a solid recruiter, and a class act, for an HC.

Otherwise, 5th place in 3 of 5 yrs at helm, and a hideous 77-71 SEC 5 yr mark, would mean severance pay at LSU.

BS money talks.........those suites they are adding on won't pay for themselves. We don't host next year, they better make a damn good run or else he may be looking for employment elsewhere. Check out the history, Dinardo fired in 99, right before the stadium expansion. Smoke fired in 07, one year before the new box is finished.

CPM needs a clean sweep of assistants. This is friggen LSU, if LSU cant get talent to compete against mediocre teams then something is seriously wrong.

Bring in established assistant coaches not ones who want to cause strife and divide a locker room

I might let Trent Johnson go 0-30 for the rest of his life at LSU if we somehow won the national title.

I'm inclined to agree Boat, but sans the Dale era, LSU Hoops not the uber-expectationed blueblood that LSU Foots and Baseball now are.
