You can't ignore Gaynell Tinsley. LSU's first All American, and in his day a beast on the field.

Absolutely. So were many, many other players. I loved his grit and determination. His performance against UF is one of my all time favorite moments. But I'm sorry, I just don't think he belongs in that top echelon.

Hester should be nowhere near the top 8
He was damn solid, but he's likely not top 8 "modern" running backs, depending on where that starts. He's certainly nowhere near a top 8 player in overall history.

Not sure anyone disagrees with those, right?
The things is, this was the title of this thread:

Top 8 All Time LSU Football Players
Listing Hester in the Top 8 All Time at LSU is, without disrespecting the guy, a laughable assertion for anyone with any cursory knowledge of our program.

It’s a thread about the top 8 all-time football players. It absolutely matters.

Just admit you only want to rank him that high because he's white

Tommy Casanova not being listed is pure definition of laughable on this particular topic far more than Hester being listed.

6. Early Doucet
5. Matt Flynn
4. Craig Steltz
3. Patrick Peterson
2. Tyrann Mathieu
1. Glenn Dorsey
Edit:changed "Bowl" to Bowe

I think you have to break it down into three eras
Pre WW2
Dietzle/Mac
Post Mac
Could actually make an argument for a fourth —Saban/Miles
I think the style of play and talent were sort of similar in the eras above , which makes it easier to compare players. Very difficult to compare YA, to Bert Jones, Hodson, Ro, Jamarcus, Flynn etc. I think it’s difficult to compare any of the Dietzle/Mac quarterbacks to any post Mac quarterbacks.
If hardware is the true measure, regardless of era—-Cannon, Stovall , Dorsey, ——and a toss up between TM, TC or PP. I can’t recall which of those DBs has the most hardware.

7. Jacob Hester
4 year career, 1780 rushing yards.
His career yardage ranks 19th, just in front of Keiland Williams.
Recent backs who rank higher:
Fournette
Addai
Scott
Hill
Toefield
D. Davis
Vincent
Guice

I’ll do 10 just from the last 20-25 years or so:
1. Kevin Faulk
2. Glen Dorsey
3. Patrick Peterson
4. Honey Badger
6. Devin White
7. Kevin Mawae
8. Josh Reed
9. Andrew Whitworth
10. Jacob Hester
I could probably put 50 guys here easily. OBJ, Landry, Alan Faneca, Jamal Adams, Lavalais, Spears, Bowe, Hill, Collins, Royal, Brockers, etc all belong up there.

Gaynell Tinsley
Billy Cannon
Jerry Stovall
Tommy Casanova
Glenn Dorsey
Patrick Peterson
Morris Claiborne
Grant Delpit
All of these players represent 7 of the 8 players at LSU to ever get unanimous All-American honors, plus the only 3-time winner of the award at LSU.

No 3 time first team all American Tommy Casanova?

Calm down, TIGRLEE. The white guy was a very good football player for us. It's OK.
