I'll never understand the infatuation with JR. He had a nice little streak in '06. Oh. Let's not forget his pissing his pants in Gainesville. Fumbling at the fkin 1? With hands the size of dinner plates and a 6'6" 260 # frame. All he had to do was fart and it would've pushed him over the goal line. This accompanied his other turnovers in the game. He had a chance at Auburn to throw some better passes that would've helped. The infamous Doucet pass should've been thrown earlier. Also, he takes a fkin sack with 31 sec left, when a smarter QB would've thrown it out of bounds. The final at was an under thrown pass to Buster. SMGDH! Gimme Rohan over JR.

LOL. Cherry-picking 2 plays does not cancel out the fact he had the highest quarterback rating among BCS quarterbacks in 2006.

Flynn - similar to Davey with only one full year and a bowl game. Had an elite offense to help him out which is why I put him behind Mauck. And he lost twice that year to shitty teams.

Then the defense should have helped him out...

Anyone who thinks we have had a better QB than JR in over 3 decades is wrong. I'll let people argue Hodson because the time lapse makes it hard to remember. But JR had more talent and physical ability than any other QB ever on our roster. Yes he made mistakes but so did everyone else. His 2006 season was solid and he still got hate yet 50,000 LSU fans cheered "one more year" after he destroyed Notre Dame. How many other QBs were picked #1 overall?

So he had a bad game on the road in arguably the hardest place to play In the SEC against the eventual national champion and should have made better throws on horrendously officiated plays against Auburn?

Man, that guy sucked. You're right.

Forget about the numerous dramatic comeback victories, the eye-popping stats, the 10-win seasons and the Sugar Bowl annihilation of Notre Dame.

So far Jamarcus has been listed as 7th and outside the top 10.

I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

I'd be hard pressed to put JR in my top 5. He couldn't pry away the job from Marcus Randall and if Saban stayed, Flynn would have started. Those arguments don't really matter, but JR was always about potential. Our offense was stacked around him and he threw for 300 yards once....his last game against Notre Dame. Physically he was a beast and he won a ton of games, but he's not #1. No way.

Most would agree on this top 3 in some order:

Jones
Title
Hodson

I think JR is in an argument somewhere close behind these 3.

I didn't say Perrilloux belonged but he was a huge contributor in 2007 and was better than Herb Tyler by far yet someone already wants to include him.

Herb Tyler is the 2nd winningest QB in LSU history, and if DiNardo wouldn't have went off the deep end and hired Lou Tepper, he would most likely be #1. He's also top 5 in passing yards and #1 in QB rushing TDs in LSU history with 23 rushing TDs. He came in with no hype as a true freshman because of an injury and we rolled to four straight victories and whipped Saban's azz in the bowl game. He was named Freshman All-SEC after just starting those games. He was 3-0 in bowl games beating Clemson (where he was offensive MVP) and ND as well. And of course, he was huge in slaying Spurrier/#1 UF and ending their SEC-record winning streak. That night will live on forever. Herb Tyler was the man in that game and was a damn good QB at LSU. That was after a long period of darkness.

Perrilloux was a very talented player and could have been really good, but we were only able to see flashes of what he might have been. We don't know how he would have held up. He was potentially better than Tyler with all his tools, but never got to really prove it over time.

I am good with that... can't see how he is not in the top 3-4 for recent QB's. Solid

Actually twice. But how could this possibly be a reason to keep him out of the top five? He's third all time in passing yards with just two years as a starter, second all time in TDs, completed 61% of his passes, had a TD/Int ration of 2.5/1 and had one of the two or three best seasons of any QB in the country in 2006 by every measure. And it's not like we were Texas Tech under Leach in '05 and '06. We ran the ball.

That isn't even touching on the unforgettable heroic victories against Arizona State, Tennessee ('06) and Bama among others that have escaped my memory.

I'm not saying that he's the unequivocal greatest, but I don't see how someone could objectively leave him out of their top 5 or even top 3.

I mean, no one will agree with this, but Mettenberger was a better quarterback than Mauck.

In no particular order

Hodson
Jones
Russell
Flynn
Mauck
Woodley
Davey
Rabb
Tittle

Having trouble with #10. Tyler, Mett, Stokeley... I'm sure I'm forgetting somebody

No way was Russell the best. He had awesome moments, and lots of stats, but WAY too many 3-and-outs on his watch to claim top spot.

Mettenberger is a top 10 quarterback to ever play for LSU. I mean, idk how he stacks up statistically, but you can't pick 10 guys you'd rather have behind center than him.

I agree with you.

Guy could make all the throws and won a bunch of games.

Should have been a 3 year starter if we didn't have such a magical 2011 season.

I just mean that there was too much at stake that season to break in a new QB.

But under normal circumstances, he definitely had more talent than Lee/Jefferson combined
