BTW I don't have cable, I don't use pirate streams, so today's announcement made my decision to watch the game a lot easier.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I figured that the games being broadcasted on the cable ESPN channels would not be accessible to those of us without the proper credentials, much like with other sports.

I am pretty sure you need to have not only cable but ESPN also

Not for games on ESPN3

No. All you need is an internet provider and one of the tv providers along with a device such as Roku, Firestick, AppleTV, Chromecast, etc. This can be a major cable/satellite provider or you can do like I do and pay $35/month for PlayStation Vue or $25 for SlingTV. Buy the player, plug it in, connect it to your WiFi, then open the Watch ESPN app and follow the instructions to connect thru your tv provider.

Typically that is how it works. However, many internet service providers (Cox, Comcast, TW, etc) allow you to watch programming and game streams hosted on ESPN3 for free. After you download and open the WatchESPN app, select your ISP from the large list. You will be asked to sign in with your account information, which would be your username and password you use when you pay your bill or check your ISP email.
If you have trouble, post back here and someone can help you out. Most of the regional games are on ESPN3, so you can try it out before tonight's game.
Here is an issue that took me a while to figure out. The first time I tried to watch something on ESPN3, it would not work even though I had used the other watchESPN channels many time. Turns out, 3 is tied to your internet provider not your cable company. I log on to 3 using AT&T credentials. All others with Suddenlink.

I am able to watch all the espn3 games on currently and am just getting the weather delay screen for the game in BR which is to be expected. It won't let me watch whatever is on regular espn through the app which must mean that they are allowing anyone to watch espn3 with the app as you stated previously.
This set up with watch espn and sling is pretty damn awesome though and waaaay cheaper than cable. I would highly recommend it. It's taken me a while to get off the cable bandwagon but I'm saving probably close to a hundred dollars a month with this.

I have Directv and att wireless. Internet is not available in my area. Downloaded watchespn on on my tablet. No internet- no espn3 according to directv/att. Any options besides finding somewhere to go watch?

AT&T definitely offers ESPN3

Right, I'm gonna check when I get to the house. I have sling in lieu of cable tho so I figured I would add the sports package to my base one when football rolls around. May just do it a little early or something if need be to catch the game and potentially Omaha stuff.
You'll need it after this weekend but the rest of the games this weekend are on espn3 which you can access through your isp. I had to add the sports pack to vue to watch yesterday's game because it was on sectv

May not have to worry about it with rain delays and rain outs. Keep checking ESPNU and SECN tonight.

How come we don't use the TD Score Board for baseball?

Yes true, att internet. Their internet is not available to us. We use the wireless network thru our phones for web. Can not get.

Do you have an AT&T account?
If so, use that for the login on WatchESPN app.

Probably because for most games, there's not enough traffic to justify it. I could definitely see using it for postseason games, though.

Yes I do. Logged in with email and password. No dice. Asks to select provider. I select Directv. Will not work. Called tech support, was told that link is for Directv internet. I pay $325 a month for wireless and tv. shite service is my reward. Will see if I can get satellite internet thru Hughesnet and will explore sling, etc.
