As a football drill it's only a small piece of the pie. As fun for the players and as a recruiting tool it's got its place.

Did you check to see if they were the losers of the drill?

Judging by their reactions to someone getting beat badly, I'd say you're either full of shite, or those players were downplaying it's importance because they got beat.

No, its something to get the fans excited. The players know this and are told this. There are tons of reporters there filming the drill so they act all hype for the fans. Trust me on this one. It has nothing to do with getting beat, and the players dont look at it like a badge of honor. Look how many guys brush of the contact.

Wow, relax man. They are football players, not theatre majors.

The Big Cat is not the end all be all, but it is a good drill that displays physicality and being technically sound in terms of hand placement, pad level, keeping a solid base and driving your feet.

And there are not a lot of guys brushing off contact. Some of the DBs pull the ole move, usually when they think they are gonna get beat, but for the most part, you see that the DBs that are good in the Big Cat are the same ones that tackle well. Same with WRs. The ones who excel in the Big Cat are good blockers.

It's a very poignant drill for the linemen, TEs, running backs and linebackers.

Skip to the 10:00 mark to hear Shepard talk about the Big Cat.

Wait, what? I'm not arguing about the validity of the drill. I'm just passing along info.

Well, you're not providing the source of your info.

If there is a source, I have my doubts about the credibility and/or sample size.

Sample size: 4 players

We were watching YouTube videos and came across a series of big cat drills and were laughing at a few with them in it and I asked if the players like the drill or think its a big deal like the fans do and they laughed and said no. One of the cool things about this site are random pieces of "inside info" or player perspective. As a student at LSU it's not umcommon to be friends with a player so I don't see why someone would lie about something this stupid haha

Oh, i see. You're making the site cooler by providing inside info from four unnamed players.

As a student at LSU, you should be aware that not sourcing your info makes your credibility plummet.

Haha. No I'm not going to post peoples names and attribute stuff they said while shooting the shite. It's not a news report. I honestly don't know why you would have a problem with that

I don't have a problem with it. Frankly, I don't even like this conversation, so let's just leave it here.

I just wanted to respond to people saying the Big Cat was lame. Which is the notion that you attributed to these mystery players.

because about 99% of the time someone says something on here that they claim to have gotten from a player, coach, insider, etc., it's total either bullshite or 3rd hand.

but, related to your point, when I played sports back in the last century, most of us thought much of the shite we did in practice was pointless...we just wanted to play dammit...just like Iverson

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think everybody has had those times when they didn't want to practice.

The difference with these Big Cat drills (and I think its a big reason why they're so popular) is the high level of intensity and effort involved. That's what makes them fun to watch for me. If everybody was just going through the motions it really wouldn't be interesting.
