it's fairly likely since he's a top 15 player; however, Martin was top 10 and stayed...

Cal asked Blakeney to hold off a few weeks ago. Cal has all his eggs in Malik Newman's basket. Blakeney is second choice.

He's choosing LSU.

I don't know much about his recruitment, but apparently this affects JaQuan Lyle in a positive way as well. Another big time prospect.

And for those who don't know about Blakeney and Lyle. Blakeney is good buds with Lyle who was a Top 40 2014 recruit, Lyle did not qualify last year but will come in for 2015 wherever he goes. Lyle has mentioned many times playing with Blakeney, so there's a big time chance if we get Blakeney today, Lyle is quick to follow. If we have Simmons, Blakeney, Lyle and Magee as a transfer, I would dare say that's our best class we've ever brought in.

Simmons is #1 player overall as a SF/PF and a 5-star
Blakeney is a Top 20 player overall as a SG and a 5-star
Lyle was a Top 40 player overall as a SG in 2014 and a high 4-star
Magee was a Top 100 player overall as a PG in 2014 and a mid 4-star

With Blakeney committing, we'd be catapulted from #60 to a top 15 class in 247's rankings.

If we finish with the two other in-state targets, Sampson and Frazier, we'd be the #1 class as things stand now.

Unlikely we'll finish with either if Blakeney joins the class. Won't be enough room.

Yeah, I was going to ask: how many spots are open this year?

Only 3. There are two unfilled scholarhips and Odo is graduating. Martin/Mickey leaving would open up for 5 new players. While Sampson would be a take, I still don't think Frazier has an offer.

Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong. However, there is a limit of 13 scholarships in CBB. On this year's team LSU has 11 scholarship players. Obviously that leave 2 spots available for next season. Odo is the only Sr. on the team, so that opens up one more. All told, LSU has three scholarships currently available for next season (2 if you consider that Simmons is already signed)

The unkown is what happens with Mickey and Martin. Obviously if one or both leave that opens up more spots. If LSU gets commits from more than 3 people before the end of the season you'll know that Mickey and/or Martin are leaving, OR that they are essentially going to cut someone from this year's team

I've been told that Blakeney has already given his verbal commitment to the LSU staff. UK has put the full court press on this kid, this would be one hell of a coup for Jones, Patrick and the rest of staff!

This is really fun to think about what we could have here. Especially if UK loses a bunch of players and cant fill up their roster with studs. It would certainly make it interesting next year. Starting 5 Gray Blakeney possibly martin and mickey then Australian Jesus. TQ hornsby robinson patterson epps coming off the bench.
