I think it is highly unlikely that a DB can win the Heisman without scoring a few TD's on offense or kick returns....but if he were to have a HUGE game against Bama, who knows. The hype machine is already in motion and that could kick it into overdrive. But I can't see him winning it even if he continues to play at this level. He needs to find the end zone on punt returns to seriously get into the conversation.

Imagine the recruiting tool LSU has for DBs. "We have Ron Cooper, one of the best coaches in the game, and for the last 2 years we have had a defensive back in talks for the Heisman. If you come here and play your heart out for the Tigers, that will be you!"

Richardson just needs to have a solid game. TM needs to be all world.

If he somehow returns 2 punts for tds in the remaining 6 games then i think he has a chance to get invited. But he probably has to have 2 more defensive tds and the 2 return tds to even be mentioned.

It actually may hurt him that we are winning by double digits every game. He has been extremely effective, but he hasn't had a game winning/deciding play all season.

If Luck carves up Oregon it doesn't matter what anyone else does in any other games.

Mathieu will not win it unless he picks off McCarron twice, returns a punt for the game winning td and needs stat stuffers in every remaining game which will not happen

I dont get it.

put the attention on him as defensive player of the year,
and DB of the year.

there is NO chance he actually wins the Heisman, and it would take him away from preparations for the bowl game, for him to be among the top few, and have to go to NYC and congratulate some QB, with LUCK being the most likely, and a few others all more likely than TM7.

He needs a signature play. Hopefully a FF, FR for a touchdown

Andrew Luck could not play another game and he would win it. No one else has a chance, the media has already crowned him

We'll have to win and he'll have to be MVP to get invited. Luck or Wilson will win. It's almost impossible to beat that qb bias.

I know this is going to sound like I am being Debbie Downer here but I think his chances of actually winning are extremely slim, if not none. The voters have it in their mind that it has to be given to an offensive player(I know Woodson won but he was also playing receiver and was returning punts for TDs....his defensive big plays numbers were relatively small). I know they are keeping him in the talk all the time but he still isnt really moving up anyones board as a serious contender. He would need probably 2 punt returns for TDs and most likely would need to break the single season forced fumble record...not to mention lead LSU in tackles(or close to it) plus the signature big play against Bama. Im not saying it is impossible, and I am all for him and wish I had a vote to give him, but it is a HUGE long shot...realistically.

He needs to run a few back before actually being considered a Heisman candidate

my biggest fear in this game is that TM7 will make a Kentucky strip and score of McCarron, then, while we are celebrating, the ref announces that the play will be reviewed. It is ruled that McCarron's arm was moving forward, even though video evidence shows that he was, in fact, standing there like a statue.

Do we see the QB's or RB's setting themselves apart from each other this year with huge stats?

I think if luck and Moore are pretty much on par then they don't win. I don't see any of the backs having a heisman year with a couple losses to their names. If we go undefeated and TM7 is still puttin on this kind of performance then I think he has a strong chance.

I think an invite to NYC is a success for TM7 and LSU. It would be a big deal.

100% agree. I love TM7 to death, but he will not win, but making it to NYC is like winning for a DB.

If he makes a big play in Bama and we win he'll get the invite (assuming his play doesn't fall off).

At this point of his career I think he is better than Woodson, the only df player to win the HT. Of course he will not win it.

If it's business as usual for him against UT and AU, November 5th is when we see if this actually has a chance of happening.

With the enormity of this game, I feel that if LSU wins (this is key), and TM7 can get a few tackles for loss, forces a fumble or two, and plays solid cover defense, he's very much in it. If he gets a pick and/or scores a TD, I think he's in the top 3 of candidates, if not the top. Make your mark on the big stage.

Wishful thinking?
I agree except I think he'll actually need to score as well against bama.
