quote:I don't know anything about this guy other than what I have read on here, so I'm not real thrilled about the hire. But I do believe he should be given a fair chance from the fans to prove what he can do. And if Saban hired the guy back after Clemson, he must bring something valuable to the table.
Don't forget that Saban had him at DC for his first season at Bama. He immediately moved him out the following year, giving him a BS position till he found a job at Clemson, where he didn't do well and took a demotion back at Bama as a position coach.

I support Stele and the rest of the staff 100%.
I actually think it is a smart hire because he is clearly qualified and he comes from the program by which LSU is measured.

He will give us Bamas secret playbook, that's his value.

I'm glad to support Steele, especially if he doesn't give up every 3rd and Chavis.

Agree! Plus pulling him away from Alabama weakens their staff a bit.

Get ready for the STEELE CURTAIN DEFENSE!!!

Really?
A failed head coach, a failed DC, and now a LB coach? That makes him qualified to run the defense at LSU???

Totally. No way Bama can replace a LBers coach they had for 9 months. Super weakens them.

U know what big cat u are a reasonable guy I think. This hire is Lou Tepper bad. Miles will be out in two seasons, meanwhile we fans will suffer from watching poor offense and poorly coached defense.

If he was the LB coach, then somebody was doing something right those dudes were pretty dam tough

Agreed...the man deserves at least a few games to show what he can do with LSUs talent before he's cast overboard as an albatross. Shoot, if I was a young D player anywhere in the country, I'd be wanting to hear what the linebacker coach at ALABAMA has to teach!

fyi..Ohio St, attached the edges of Bama's LBs..this is a failed attempt at hiring a quality DC

He has had nothing from a success standpoint for to run this defense. He gave up 70 fricking points in a bowl game with a month to game plan.
Posted on 1/13/15 at 8:07 pm to Volvagia
But did he have the talent already at those places that he took over as DC? Or was he trying to rebuild at those places? We will see what happens?

BIG CAT I really like your attitude and I agree completely. Regardless of what success or failure is in Kevin Steele's past experiences, fact is, getting tutelage under one of the most gifted defensive minds in the history of college football can only be a positive. I was never a fan of Chavis, never thought he was a great defensive coach (check out the 2001 SEC Championship game, when Rohan, a dropback passer goes out and Mauck, a running quarterback comes in Chavis philosophy never changed) Chavis ability to alter strategy during games was mediocre at best. In the 80's and early 90's he could get away with this. Even at LSU he was able to get away with this due to having the level of players he had. But, with the creative minds running college offenses in today game, it's imperative a defensive coordinator have the mind to alter game plans on the fly, Chavis was not one who had this ability. Steele may or may not end up being a good DC, but judging the mans ability as incompetent and foreseeing failure before he even coaches his first game is really an unfair and prejudice mentality. That catastrophic mentality Saban was able to change concerning the culture of LSU football is beginning to rear it's ugly head again. Lets give Steele a damn chance before we lambast him and burn everyone at the stake before he even has a chance to show us something.

I have a very simple philosophy:
I'll cheer like hell for every player / staff member that is a part of the team until they are no longer associated...then, I will cheer like hell for the replacement.
I do not project a future bad outcome and suffer the pain today. that seems like silliness to me.
Once again you demonstrate why you're almost universally considered to be one of the best posters on TD.

Just support the mother fricker and if he ends up being who you thought he was then let the riots begin..give it time..time will tell

quote:no.. I would rather the guy that is paid millions hire someone with a resume worthy of being the DC of our Tigers.....
I have no clue what kind of job Steele will do,but he is our new DC and that's not going to change. Let's give him our Tiger support and say a prayer this works out
Love the Tigers.. Hate the direction of the program.. Time to clean house..
