Herman welched on a verbal agreement.
There are conflicting stories everywhere, but Herman is a Texas alum. It's hard to believe he would have seriously considered going anywhere else if he had the opportunity to go to Texas. I think he used the LSU negotiations to put pressure on Texas to make a move.

This is the correct answer.

Dude had a market. He used it to his best advantage. Don’t blame him at all for getting the best deal that he could get. However, he’s about to see what he used to boost his price up close and personal.

I have nothing against the man...other than his bowling pins of a team are the next ones to see and feel these tigers. He will be a distant memory for the tiger faithful next Monday.

Not this shite again

A very loud minority of the board wanted Jimbo.

And most of us would've taken Herman over Jimbo.

You are 100% correct but some on this board cannot comprehend and/or agree with the reality that he was NEVER coming to LSU. There has never been and still is no doubt in my mind that LSU currently has the better coach! And you can throw Dumbo Fisher in there as well!

I disagree. His plane landed in Baton Rouge and was on the tarmac heading to AD Dept w/ Alleva to ink the deal. He got the last minute offer from UT then had to tell Alleva face to face he wasn't coming.

I think it also gets him more money. Texas knows he's dying to go there, but if there's real fear that he could actually go somewhere else, then Texas has to start playing ball or will lose out. It did nothing but benefit his situation.

However, I do believe that theres some truth to the other side and Alleva found out he was using us to benefit his Texas deal and pulled any offer all together. So there's truth in both sides I believe, even though I think theres no way in hell Herman takes the LSU offer unless Texas drops interest altogether. Which they were never going to do.

we never countered, alleva shriveled up when Texas offered and we didnt counter.

Alleva got owned in a negotiation, we never countered.

It's a game. Alleva put all of his faith in getting Herman, Hermans people were just using us for leverage.

I think Alleva was naive but Herman was just forcing Texas to make a move immediately

That doesn't really make sense. Why would Burrow have a chip on his shoulder about Herman recruiting him to play ball at OSU?

you are likely correct

That being said, your comments are all conjecture unless you've had direct contact with Herman, Armstrong or Alleva

People believe what they choose to believe

However

quote:

Herman was reportedly a finalist for the LSU job before turning down a $6 million offer and telling the school he was leaning toward taking the Texas job. The Tigers promoted interim Ed Orgeron in light of the news.

Armstrong and Texas already had an agreement. Strong was fired, Herman hired the same day.
