Ummm...All WacoTiger has proven is that people like myself that were under the assumption it had to be approved by the BOS may be incorrect.

BUT, that does not mean that he was never denied the rollover in the past two years.

I trust belowpar more than either of you or some dufus on neworleans.com

I have not been privy to any discussions between the Chancellor, the Board and/or Miles. I have only read the current contract, plus memorandums and amendments, that are part of the public record. If there is something else going on behind closed doors (and it would not surprise me in Louisiana) or in side agreements, I am not aware of or privy to those discussions or side agreements. Of course, someone could make a public records disclosure request and we could review those.

By the way, if you don't know it from prior posts, I have always supported Miles (or at least did until this past weekend) and my future support is on hold for now, pending the outcome of the next several games and the coaching decisions therein.

Waco, I appreciate your clarification on the contract issue.

I have a feeling that he was denied an extension following 2008 though, which would fit BelowPar's figure on what he'd be owed.

If his buyout is anywhere near that amount, he will not be fired. With the economy ,LSU cutting education, etc, i think it would be a PR nightmare.

I haven't read through the thread yet. Every time I post this some moron comes along to explain that the TAF and LSU are seperate. They are seperate but there is no way they are gonna deal with the HORRIBLE PR that goes with buying out Miles at this time.

I want one piece of information confirming this because I'm almost positive it isn't so.

Well, unfortunately that might be true. Alabama didn't blink at the bad press they received for offering Saban $4M / year when their state was facing financial hardships. If they are more committed than we are, maybe they deserve to be on top. I doubt paying Saban has had a negative financial impact in that state.

I'm 99% sure it wasn't rolled over after 2008, which would mean that it ends in 2012.

If you give him through the end of the season, that makes the buyout somewhere near 7.5 million.

Antonio, it was likely rolled over after last season is what it looks like.

That means 2013. I agree it likely wasn't in 2008. LSU had more than enough justification that season, especially given the team was 3-5 in the SEC.

I don't know what will happen after the season, but the look on Michael Bonnettes face during the post game interview tells a different story.

I gave you the specific language from the memorandum interpreting the contract, signed by the Chancellor and Miles and approved by the Board. I proved my point. Now, it is your turn to prove that the extension was affirmatively denied and I don't think that you can prove that. Your turn.

sorry if this has been posted, I didn't read thoroughly through the previous 6 pages of notes:
SEC contracts, as of Dec 2009

This was written mid-December of last year and states the contract term as through Dec 31, 2014. An amended clause states: "Also, winning eight games in a season is the basis for granting a one-year extension after every season."

So after we won 8 games last year, wouldn't that extend the contract through Dec 31, 2015?

FWIW, Miles was asked specifically about this at SEC Media days. It is linked here. He didn't confirm or deny it though.

quote:

Q. Your contract wasn’t rolled over the last two years. Does that make you think you have to have a season more like your first three seasons than the last two?

COACH MILES: I didn’t really seek that role. My view, very honestly, has been a view of how to coach and prepare my team for victory. I’m very fortunate to have a good contract. I don’t think that’s the issue. I think the issue is preparing my football team.

Antonio, I am in your camp here, but according to belowpar, his buyout after this season is $11.3M so that would mean 3 years left. That means he had to get it one of the past two seasons.
