Not really sure who designed it. I think it was changed a few years ago, but still not much of an improvement. Given the history of the rivalry, not sure one was needed, but in the post ‘70s years, it lost its luster. I suppose the trophy was intended to boost the rivalry. Back in the day, every home game before the Ole Miss game ended with the entire stadium chanting “Go to hell, Ole Miss” as people headed toward the exits.

Former Hog ball player conceived it to help foster a rivalry. Your assumption is correct in its entirety. They are convinced up here that they are going to play their best game of the year. Just don’t have the heart to educate them that Miles isn’t here anymore. Lol

Yeah, the Tigers won the first game when the boot was presented to the winner. As I remember, the team took it to the locker room at War Memorial and left it there where it got “lost” for a couple of months!

The trophy is trash and was created because Ole Miss and their SGA had nothing.

Hopefully they bring a garbage can and chunk the boot in it on national TV.

The last time we won the boot back, it was all tarnished. So when we got back to Baton Rouge, we had somebody polish the bottom half.

I don’t know how I feel about leaving it on the field. I do understand the message.

With that said, that’s one ugly arse trophy. Actually, the loser should probably get it anyway.

That damn boot is made of 24k gold. They should melt it down and split the cash.

Nobody. And I mean NOBODY, goes to LSU or Ole Miss with dreams of winning The Magnolia Bowl. This is sad. The older fans and players and alumni for both schools agree that this is sad. It's one of the few things that now brings them together. So much MEH in that trophy. That being said....Geaux To HELL OLE MISS!

I have thought the same thing for years! That monstrosity could slice off a toe if dropped. Players should not be allowed to lift the boot.

What's sad is I made a comment about how forced the trophy was in a thread before the game. And then after the game I completely forgot it even existed until I saw this thread.
