my big sis Jody. Killed in a car accident in Sept 2003. 4 days earlier I sat with her in Tiger Stadium for the ULM game, the first win in our magical 2003 national championship season.

Colby Mitchell from shreveport comes to mind. In fact, i am glad this came up. You just made me think about that dude and his voice that barely could reach whispering level. He loved LSU and was a great go to guy on tailgate banter. I used to love crushing vodka and grapefruit with that dude under the oak and ask him stat questions. He used to ask me every game, " if you fought your brother who woul win"! Silly i know, but just a fond memory of a time we will never recreate.
God bless The Mitch.

My grandfather. Every football season, we lived and died with LSU and the Saints. We did a lot more dying than living most years, but that was okay. We had each other to share the disappointment, and we always looked forward to next year.
And “next year” finally happened. He stuck around long enough to see both of our teams become winners. No one wanted to strangle Nick Saban and Les Miles more than he did (but not nearly as much as he wanted to throttle Carl Smith for his “run & punt” offense during the Jim Mora era).
And no one loved Drew Brees more. “Boy, he’s better than Archie ever was,” he’d always say. “I can’t believe we got him.” And I’ll never forget when we held each other and cried when LSU and the Saints finally won it all.
I'm grateful that I made it home from Iraq in time to hold his hand when he died this May. I put LSU and Saints footballs in his casket.

My Dad who played football for LSU from 1947-1950. He passed away a year ago on Oct. 30th and his funeral was the Thursday before the Alabama game last year. I always knew that my Dad and my Uncle (who also played football for LSU in the 1940's) were up in heaven teaching God the "Hot Boudin" cheer and they helped win that game last year. I'm hoping they can work their magic again this year!

Miss you guys.

No Rant thread has ever made me cry, until now.
I can see my Dad grilling steaks in the back yard, listening to John Ferguson's call on a portable radio.
Maybe they're doing that together this weekend

My grandfather David Klotz of Shreveport Louisiana, my best friend, my idol. He was born and raised in napoleonville Louisiana and a life long LSU fan. It came time for college and his mother would not allow him to go to LSU saying he would fail out from the partying. He then went to Alabama where he received his bachelors degree. Shortly after he got the hell out of there and enrolled at LSU against his mothers blessing and went on to receive his law degree. He never missed a home game ever. Pops wore the same hat shirt and pants on game day for his last ten years. In 2000 during the LSU bama game in baton rouge he collapsed late in the game due to a heart attack. My father sitting beside him knew something was wrong when he did not stand in excitement during a game changing play, after he dropped the off duty nurse that had sat behind him for years pulled his nitrogen pills from his pocket with her grace and the help of the stadium EMTs and the quick airlift he survived. He witnessed the 1958 championship as well as the 2003 championship in person. He was not in good enough health to witness the 2007 championship and i received his ticket to witness my first championship game. The summer following the 2007 championship he passed. He was a great father, grandfather, an amazing person and friend. Pops was loved by all and known by tons. I carried his casket to the tune of the tiger fight song and will never forget that day. If he were here he would defiantly have a few bourbons with us all.

To the OP and everyone posting in here - thank you very much for this thread! It's definitely got me misty eyed thinking of my dad.
He loved his Tigers, whether it was listening on the radio, driving down highway 30 to haggle for tickets outside the stadium or watching the games that came on t.v. back then (pre 1993). I'll lift a cold one to him at the kickof Saturday. A great Dad and a wonderful example of the Greatest Generation. Miss him lots.

My dad,
He was the one who painted the huge tiger banners before every game in the late 40's and the team would run through them.
He designed the old LSU logos that had the tiger walking over tiger stadium and one for channel 9 that had the tiger walking over the 9. This is old school....60's broadcast stuff that lasted until the early 80's.
He loved the Tigers and would have loved to see us win.
He died in 69 when I was just 6 years old. Not a day goes by that I don't miss my daddy.

Sucks Boosie is watching from jail.
On a serious note, these threads are weird.

What a thread, this takes the rant to a new level.
I know my dad, Hu Newman will be watching. I still remember the way the field looked as I came through a portal of the s ez upper deck in 1959. He took me to my first game. We used to sit on the patio and listen to John ferguson and he would diagram the plays.
He played for big fuzzy at istrouma, introduced me to billy cannon and Johnny Robinson at Alvin Roy's gym lwhen I was 7. He went on a business trip to Tampa in a private plane when I was fourteen, and on the way back the plane disappeared, never a trace found. We used tO sing the alma mater when I was a kid, and I sing it every game and think of him. I never even thought of going to school anywhere else.
By God, if there is any way for Hu Newman to get the tigers a win, it will happen. Miss you and always loved you dad.

My uncle who invited me to my first LSU game. I used to love going to see him just cause I knew we'd be talking LSU for hours. He passed in 2006 I believe the day after the Arkansas game.
We came from Georgia for his funeral the following week. My aunt seemed sort of distant to everyone at the viewing and funeral. I think she was just in shock. As we were leaving to head back to Georgia, I went to tell her bye and gave her a hug. She hugged me tight and said "You know he stayed alive just long enough to watch LSU beat Arkansas."
I'll never forget that or him for as long as I live.
