Don’t they practice outside?

What a Joke the Tiger Band has become.
It's been a steady stream of "Mike Archer-Promote the Assistant" hires from Damon "I don't care about Marching Band" Talley.
The position has NEVER been advertised nationally and interested candidates interviewed since Frank Wickes retired.
Assistants that have been promoted without anybody else being interviewed = Linda Moorhouse, Roy King, Dennis Llinas, Kelvin Jones and Simon Holoweiko.
I thought LSU was required by Law to advertise job openings and interview interested candidates..........

Weird that they were practicing inside on a Friday before the game
They were practicing outside by the band hall, in full view of the world. I was over that way and seent it with my own 2 eyes.
And like most stuff on here, I feel like the OP is leaving out some details.

I would have told them to kiss my black arse if they were practicing outside.

They were outside at the band practice field, and the director and assistant director told me to leave.

Just told you to leave....no reason given? That makes zero sense.

So the Director and assistant Director of the Band walks up to me and says the practice is closed to the public now.
Bet they wouldn’t have kicked Deangelo Sanchez out

Wym? I was in Tiger Band during Roy time. I never would have thought the directors are mean. Maybe they have a surprise for halftime show, and do not want anyone knowing the surprise? But the band sounded great at practice today! I heard them in my car when I was parked at Burger King beside the band hall. It was an incredible sound!
I am praying for the band program every day, and this is what ever tiger band and lsu band alumni should do.

That's lame to hear. Should've never let Moorhouse walk. Talley is a dork.
It’s sad. I came to LSU from Memphis because the music program was recognized all over as one of the best in the South. FSU and Texas were huge and North Texas was blowing up, but LSU had a top notch band program and music ed department and was respected. Dr. Raush, the Percussion Professor while I was at LSU, also had a great reputation and was a respected reviewer and clinician for the Percussive Arts Society. Every director I had in my high school years would have or did highly recommend LSU as a place to go if you were interested in being a music major.
As an LSU alum who still loves TGBFTL, I would not recommend a musician with their pick of schools consider LSU today. If you just want to have fun and play in TGBFTL, knock yourself out. If you want to be a Ed major, that’s still a good department, but the band program just isn’t close to what it was today. Maybe if they lived in LA and out of state tuition would be an issue, but otherwise, I just couldn’t recommend what LSU is today to any really serious musician. That really bothers me.

Linda Moorhouse
Stop right there. Linda is the director of bands at Illinois. That’s a very strong program in one of the biggest states for bands, matching and concert, in the nation.
Even though she was already here, she WAS the most qualified person for the job. What she’s accomplished since leaving is ample proof of that. The band program would be better off by far today if the idiots in charge hadn’t acted a fool and run her off.

Maybe they were secretly practicing Neck
Posted on 9/5/25 at 11:39 pm to polkchop1
I’m sure it was a misunderstanding. They were just about to practice “Neck” and thought you might shout STTDB.

And they have been neutered on game day by a weak admin.

You think you’re going to find a different answer on tRant or something?

Need Rob Dowie to stop kissing arse and pull some weight.
Dude is “Assistant Director of Bands” at a major university and had zero band teaching experience prior to getting the gig. The other 3 directors listed on the website have post-graduate degrees in the music field. I’m almost certain he has never actually taught a band class in a HS or junior high setting, and he did not major in music.
Asking him to pull weight is like suggesting a student athletic trainer go into Coach Kelly’s office and explain the intricacies of the toss dive.
He’s the Derek Ponamsky of the program.

The directors would welcome guests at gameday practices and there were always a handful that would stop and watch outside. As a TB alum, I’d be pissed if they said that to me with no signs posted.
