The tickets aren't that expensive.
Its people scalping them thats making it expensive. There's people who literally flock to and then sit and wait for these tickets to be available on LSU website. They gobble them up and then put them on Seat Geek for 10 times the original cost.

I have a friend who's like a brother and has always been "connected" in the entertainment/sports business in NOLA, so we stayed at the Queen & Cresent for nothing and killer seats, front row of lodge level, high fiving the OL Boys jumping in the stands with my oldest son while the wife and other kid stayed at the hotel, he was too little and I had 2 free tickets so Great Memories ??????

Got mine early at a discount only cost me 1500 for 4 nose bleeders lol
I paid $7 for student section tickets for 2003 LSU vs Georgia. Nothing will ever top that. No way I'm paying over $20 for a nose bleed ticket in this era of pay for play football

It's not a college football problem. It's not an LSU problem. LSU sells the tickets for fair prices.
The problem is that they sell out almost instantly on LSU website. Savvy people use advanced ways of gobbling up the supply of things that are for sale online. It's "hustle culture" there is an entire subset of our economy in this country made up of basically scalpers, it's what they do for a living. It's actually their job.... They do it with everything from Bourbon and watches to Stanley cups and Sneakers. Pokémon cards, baseball cards, you name it. If it's something that people want. They WILL gobble up the entire stock of that item or as much as they possibly can and then put it online for 10 to 20 times of the cost. Not paying any income tax on this income either.
There are videos of grown arse men getting into fist fights in Target and fricking Walmart over Pokémon restocks. They're not fighting each other because they're nerds and like Pokémon. They're fighting because they're taking those boxes of product and sneakily opening them, taking out the expensive items to sell for exorbitant amounts on trading sites, then replacing them with unwanted cards and then resealing it and selling the box for double to some wine mom for little Johnny. Who is none the wiser.

What the school should do is monitor it and remove peoples next season ticket allotment from them if they get caught doing this. I don't know what that would look like. But they've figured out more complicated issues than this. If they catch a season ticket holder listing their entire allotment of season tickets on stub hub or seat geek for 5-10 times of face value. Just to make money. Then they get removed from the season ticket holder list and those tickets are sold to the next person in line for season tickets.
One way to stop it maybe could be that they have a big chunk of the tickets that HAVE to be purchased in person. Real tickets sold at a ticket office by a real person that you physically have to go purchase. Some of these people doing this probably aren't affiliated to LSU or Louisiana in any way shape or form. It's strictly a money-making scheme. It'll stop the people that use purchase bots to gobble things up on websites the moment it opened up for sale.
What'll eventually happen is that it's going to start affecting attendance. Once it gets too out of reach from normal folks (currently, probably at that precipice).
