RPO = Run-Pass Option. This means after snapping the ball, the QB has the option to either pass the ball downfield or hand off for a running play. The run option of this play doesn’t necessarily mean the QB runs it so he doesn’t necessarily have to be fast.
Read Option means the QB reads the Dlineman or OLB and either hands the ball off to a RB or keeps it and runs the ball. This typically requires an athletic, fast QB.

To be at its most effective. The QB has to be able run a bit. The QB dos not have to be a wishbone QB runner type.
