I've always wondered about him too. Why does he always get thrown up as a top 3-4 coach in the SEC, often times ahead of Miles?

Richt has taken some heat, but usually when he does a bunch of folks rush to his rescue because he wears his religion on his sleeve. I've heard several sports talk guys have a tough time criticizing him but have no problem bashing Miles...

It really is a good question. Maybe it's east coast bias? Richt gets a lot more favorable press in my opinion. It's odd because Miles seems to get more national coverage and exposure (LSU on ESPN commercials, OTL segments, etc) but I think he's still perceived to have a wild trigger finger per se.

This I agree with you on...and I think that some on here see Miles falling into this category going foward. Meaning he recruits well and is competitive, but not allways the best.

After living through the Hallman years, I'm okay with being a top competitive team every year and wish everyone would stop complaing...but I still think it's okay to discuss how the team can improve and for fans to want the best team possible on the field.

We live in a day and age that gives people an opportunity to express themselves with unprecedented ease. Live call in radio shows, blogs, tweets, facebook, internet message boards ect...

While this can be fun on occasion, I am also reminded of what I have heard said (Paraphrased...) opinions are like arm pits, everybody has them and most of them stink.

This kinda puts it all in perspective for me!

What we have going on around here right now is in no way, shape or form a discussion on how the team can improve. The bashing of Miles after a 3-0 start is borderline insane.

someone pointed out to me recently that a very vocal minority of LSU fans would rather be right about the team/coach than see LSU win.

Several of them post on the MSB and /or OT and pollute the Rant with their moronic views.

I guess I just don't click on a lot of the negative threads because most of the people are just ranting/venting. You have to also remember that people like to frick around a lot on the interwebs by saying things to exagerate a point. It gets under people's skin, so they keep doing it. There's a lot of improvement needed, but so far it looks like we are getting better every game and that is what I'm looking for from our coaches.

I think the root of the Miles bashing after a 3-0 start is this:

Some LSU fans are afraid that we'll end up like last year, or worse, losing 4+ SEC games again, causing a trend for some years to come. They believe ULL, Vandy and UW aren't the quality opponents of, say, UF, GA, etc., and LSU could wind up looking as sloppy and underachieving as last year. Going 7-5 again, in many eyes, would be setting a trend not seen for awhile.

LSU starts the year 3-0, but to many LSU fans, they don't look all that impressive, and look sloppy.

Simply put.... mediocrity. It's a fear of mediocrity. This, I think, is the root of the bashing.

Personally, I'm not in panic mode. We still have to wait and see how LSU does in SEC play.

some of these guys just don't like Miles and haven't from day one...they are going to frame every argument around that...i.e. we're winning on talent alone, all our players are first round draft picks

you also have the fans with a specific player bias who will build the argument to fit that. for example, the Lee lovers blame the offensive struggles on JJ while the Jefferson lovers bash the o-line.

then you have the nerds and geeks who just want to be right, and you have the BBQ gang who believe every decision the coaches make is based on some underlying, sinister plot to play the wrong players

Agree. And some of the same people wanted Saban fired after the 2001 Ole Miss loss in Baton Rouge.

(2001 Ole Miss game - LSU was playing ultra-conservative, tried to run out the clock in the first half, forced to punt, Ole Miss got the ball and marched down the field and scored right before the end of the half. Saban and Co. was "booed". This just one example of this game. Second half was no better.)

We may have a few things on this team that need to be corrected and areas that need improvement.

The biggest problem with this team is that they are not Alabama.

Alabama and Nick Saban are coming off a SEC Championship Game appearance, are ranked higher, has a better defense, and is winning bigger.

As much as we bitch about Tulane, ULL, and Ole Miss having penis envy many LSU fans still can not get over the fact that Saban is at Alabama.

also some of it has to do with the way college football has been "professionalized" by the media, the coaches, the fans, the boosters, the ticket office, the TAF etc

Les Miles could cure cancer & aids

Come on, soldier.

Curing the malaise that has us 12th in the SEC in offense would be start.

Given our talent, is top 3 in the SEC in both offense and defense to much to ask???

Even LSU fans with cancer wouldn't expect Miles to have a cure for cancer if that happened.

I agree with this. LSU football is very "corporate" right now, and it seems to have lost some of its connection with the fan base.

true...it still believe that college athletics are, first and foremost, intended to enrich the experience of the students. I think any student that wants to go to a game should be able to...for about $5 tops.
