Defense is usually ahead of the offense at this point in the year. I’ll save my panic for halftime against Miami

In the fall if this is still the case I will be sufficiently concerned. For now understanding that we are replacing our:

Starting QB
2 top WRs
2 top RBs
2 starting OL
New OC
New OL coach
New WR coach/PGC

And it's the first scrimmage of spring after a handful of practices, I'm not there yet.

As for Canada I was all in on him as OC and hoped he could have stayed, but he never met expectations and our offense was at the bottom of the SEC in efficiency. I leave others to debate the meddling effect.

I'm on record as not favoring the current OC choice and especially the manner in which the "search" was handled. What's done is done. We'll see how it plays out. It's put up or shut up time for the HC and AD. They will rise or fall on this season because if things go sideways the 2019 class will wither and the torches and pitchforks will come out.

But, to circle back to the OP, it's premature to declare Armageddon. However; there does appear to be a meteorite in route to Baton Rouge.

So what does the rant want to see in the spring game? The offense put up 21 on a defense that most if not all think will be dominant? Or the defense's continued domination of the offense.

The only thing I take away from spring practices would be how the depth chart appears to be shaping up at different positions. Moving WRs to CBs tells you those WRs are not really expected to be in the running for playing time.

One year, Jai Eugene was moved to FS and everyone thought he would be starting because he was an upperclassman and was running that FS position in the spring with the ones. Turns out by fall he was back at CB and not starting. Same with Ron Brooks being moved to FS and then back to CB.

Harry Coleman and Corey Thompson his red-shirt 6th season were probably the few exceptions of guys moved to different positions that actually made an impact come regular season in those new spots.

Regarding defense ahead of offense in spring, yea it probably should be that way.

I didn’t see any whining in the OP. Unless you consider less than 100% sunshine whining.

You would think even Ed O/Ensminger would be giving us something to talk about knowing the offense is the biggest question mark

Why would they? They know fans know the defense is stacked, and there are tons of new, young faces on offense, and a new, unqualified OC. If they don’t talk up the offense all spring and summer, when O and Ensminger inevitably shite their pants next year, media and Cheerios can move the goalposts to whatever narrative Dereck gets from O. Rinse and repeat.

Basically what I was eluding to. Seems the lack of apparent offensive progress in concerning. That the point im trying to make.

Nobody should be losing any sleep over the first week and scrimmage of SPRING practice. They will get it figured out.

So with a new young offense they will figure it out? By when?

I mean last season this team was totally unprepared to start the season. They don't have time to figure it out with Miami as the first game. You expect it to change with basically getting rid of Canada and keeping everyone else?

Glad I am not the only one thinking this way. We start the season off with Miami, SELU then Auburn (away). If we aren't making legitimate progress on Offense this Spring, I can assure you we won't be ready.

But yal go ahead and keep drinking that kool aid.

No one is making excuses. It's just unrealistic to expect the offense to be installed completely and humming along in 7 practices or however many it's been. Anyone that expected the offense to be anywhere close to the defense right now isn't very knowledgeable about football.

Actually you're right, but the reality is that Orgeron burned his grace period last year when he didn't allow Canada to play Brennan and then when he fired Canada.

He has to produce or he's on the hottest of seats. The problem is what he's promising, results with a first year offense, is very difficult, so in my mind I already consider him to be on the hot seat.

The rest of the fanbase that are expecting fireworks now that his guy is in there are the ones that will really be blindsided, but they'll come around in late September.

I didn't miss it at all. It just didn't make sense to respond that way to my post. I never once said it was a good idea to change offenses. My post was simply about what was realistic to expect from this offense at this point. It's fricking spring practice.
