We had plenty of talk about Canada (attempting to) re-energizing the offense and the defense being on their heels. There has been virtually no talk about Ensminger in the media, aside from articles like these claiming the offense is being blown out in scrimmages.

NOLA.com "All about the defense"

quote:

"I don't want to brag, but the offense didn't really score," Texas Tech transfer defensive end Fehoko said.

I understand that spring ball isn't going to be sunshine and roses from a young, inexperienced offense, but I am really struggling to find signs that we are moving in the right (or really any) direction in what we have heard and seen so far.

Of course players/coaches are going to talk up the strengths of guys like Narcisse/Brennan, but what is that actually translating to in scrimmage? In the next breath we hear how they "didn't move the ball or didn't score today in practice."

I am really, really hoping by the end of spring ball we have a QB who this team can gel around. Going into summer with a 3-way battle to lead a newly installed offense can't be a good feeling for this team that desperately needs leaders.

It would be a mistake to take anything away from these practices. We shouldn't overreact because the offense has been behind the defense, just like we shouldn't overreact to hearing the offense were getting the best of the defense (if that were to be the case).

Though to be completely honest, from the media members that have seen bits and pieces of practice, none of them have really gotten the idea that the defense is dominating.

As much as I like to give O and Ensminger shite. This is a totally new offense with a LOT of new faces and they haven't even had 10 practices together yet. You can't expect much out of them yet, especially going against Aranda's defense when he's in year 3.

For a moment this morning, I forgot who was the OC. I couldn't remember who we hired. Hope was eternal.

Then I remembered Ensminger.

For a moment, I was happy.

We have a lot of new faces on this offense, most importantly at QB and receiver and we are reportedly slinging the ball around more. They’ve had 4 practices, one of those being a scrimmage. We are also still trying to figure out our best o line to go with. Last year we had a relatively veteran offense and a very young defense. This year it’s the opposite. A very young offense and a veteran, very skilled defense. I think a lot of people a failing to remember just how good this defense is going to be. In 2011, we had arguably the best season in college football history with a mediocre offense and the best defense in the country. Nobody should be losing any sleep over the first week and scrimmage of SPRING practice. They will get it figured out.

Then again, this is the rant and y’all flip out if we lose the coin toss...

If the offense scored 100 points in the scrimmage I still wouldn't put faith in them until what is seen in week one. We have been given false hope about the offense way too many times for me to believe it with out seeing it.

The bottom line is Spring doesn't mean much so don't put much stock in it wether good or bad.

Oh, I am very excited about what our defense will bring to the table this year. I just find it concerning that there is literally nothing exciting to talk about on the offensive side of the ball (with respect to offensive identity/new concepts/new looks).

You would think even Ed O/Ensminger would be giving us something to talk about knowing the offense is the biggest question mark, even if its the usual gumbo-flavored fluff.

We're talking about practice. Not a game. Not a game. Practice.

so our offense doesnt score on our defense = dominant defense horrible offense and we all freak out....

our offense scores on our defense = our offense is great and our defense is in concern now and has had a drop off and we still all freak out

point is no matter what this board finds something negative and whines about it.

Not true. When was the last time that our offense was the true strength of our team, and we had major legitimate concerns on defense?

I think 90% of people would think that if our offense was moving the ball on our defense, it would be a nod to the offense making progress, not a bad reflection on the defense. Our defense has given us every reason the past decade to think they will be fine and good - especially under Aranda.

Now I can't argue with that.

You wouldn't be impressed by that?

What would you need faith for? The evidence would be right there for you, they'd be executing at a high rate against a tough defense.

A good offense has to look good consistently before the games start.

Correct.

Defense is going to be filthy but if the offense doesn’t score 20 a game or gets shut out, people are going to light torches and pick up pitch forks.

I will never understand why people think it is a necessity that fans know exactly what is going on all the time. I would think the fact that there is little chatter right now would be a good thing. There is no need to let everybody in the country know exactly what it is we are doing on the offensive side of the ball. The coaches let the media, and thru the media the fans, know what they need to know and nothing more. “We’ve got a new OC, we’re going to spread it out more, and our QB competition is open and all the QB’s are even at this point.” Nick Saban, urban Meyer, those guys don’t say squat about anything. Why does our coach have to?

You're right, they don't have to tell us anything.

On the other hand, they don't get 50 different excuses either when they're not delivering on what they're promising.
