Eight-time Pro Bowl selection and former Tigers C Kevin Mawae says: "I played in some of the darker years, and even then, there were 65,000 people there. My second (recruiting) trip was 1988 against Auburn. The earthquake game. Eddie Fuller, who went to my high school, caught the touchdown pass, and the stadium got that loud. That's when I knew where I wanted to go to school. I didn't even take an official recruiting visit. I made up my mind right there."
Fans
There's a reason LSU plays better at night than in the day. Let's just say a later game gives LSU's passionate fans more time to soak in the surroundings. The student section in the corner quadrant arrives early, gets situated in the stadium and taunts the opponent from the moment they step on the field.

Kansas City Chiefs and former Tigers All-American DT Glenn Dorsey says: "They're a bunch of crazy people, die-hards. They're camping out two days before the game. I think we enjoyed playing in the evening because they'd be at it all day and just be obnoxious come game time. … We may be losing, and they're still making a lot of noise. When you're tired and you see the fans are still going nuts, it makes you want to suck it up. They give you extra energy."

Instead of the booing, bitching, and leaving early... Where did these fans go and what happened to our student section

Quit bitching about the fans!

I think the stadium stayed pretty full this past Saturday and the booing was limited to very few people even though the idiots that coach this team deserve to have heard it from the fans.

I watched the replay of the 97 Fla game last night. I was sick to my stomach on how spoiled we are these days. I was at that game and remembered it being crazy but looking back 13 years on what we have today its sad. There was not a single person Sitting down that i saw the whole game. Young, Old, Big and small. Now a days you get ejected for standing up in certain sections of TS.

I never got to go back in those days and this year is the first time I've been but I can't imagine how it was back in the day. I'll do my part to bring the glory back!

Watch some Classic games if you get the chance. The east Uppers were not there and It was crazy. My wife was watching and you could hear how loud it was. She said that it looked diferent but it was def more intense. I told her it was about 30k less people and that was when LSU wasnt very good. I couldn't get over all the people standing up. I mean there were elderly people standing and yelling. I was escorted out of the VT game for standing because the 40 year old behind me ( who was in great shape and had no handicap) kept bitching he couldnt see.

Ummm, 65,000, yeah I wish we would get back to that.

Glenn Dorsey was here with Miles people, and I had season tickets that year. There were plenty of games that emptied out early.

This notion that our fans have changed so much in the past 5 years is so exaggerated.

Last year the student section was full of Arabs throwing up everywhere and people who would talk shite about lsu and explain why they were going to lose hours before the game even started. And a lot of the time I heard people talking about only being here socially and trying to figure out what they were doing afterwards as if we are ole miss.

I've sat in the student section since the mid 90's an never saw the student section act the way they act now

I have been sitting in the same seats for the past 35 years. The guy that sits behind me used to come to the game with his grandfather when he was a little kid and he played for Archer. We were crying like two little babies at the end of that game. We had been lost in the wilderness for so long. What a great game to be in TS for.

If we somehow win the next 3 games it will become the loudest most frightening stadium in the history of the world on Nov 6. The fans have not lost it. Its just that the bar has been raised too high but 8-0 on Nov 6 will be above the bar

I was a student during the Dinardo years including the FLA 97 game and one thing about the student section back then was they crammed them in. There were no seats for the big games and people sat in the aisles. Pack them in. Also should have people get in free at halftime to fill the rest of the stands. There are some fat cat bleacher seats that empty out after half time. The endzones seem to always stay full.

What happened to the student section? THey shrunk it. You have to buy packages and not the season anymore. You have less students trying to make the sane amount of noise that double the students used to make.

Dude I was AT that game. I didn't sit for the ENTIRE GAME (in the student section)............nobody did. When I left that game, my head hurt, I was exhausted......I felt like I had just finished an intense workout.............................but I was on cloud nine for almost a week afterwards.

...............and then came Ole Miss.
