They were locked in on Klubniks tendency to scramble a little early.

Klubnik is pretty good at moving around in the pocket and very good at throwing out of the pocket on the move. We saw that several times in the game.

We tend to think both offenses were way behind the defenses because of the score, and there's some truth to that, but this Clemson offense is good. And Klubby is very good. Baker just had our guys really well prepared.

Oh and we have some major talent upgrades at DL and DB.

Watching that corner blitz from PJ got me excited for this team. The swagger is back on defense.

Could’ve given me about 100 guesses on who was blitzing and in what gap, still would’ve gotten it wrong.

Yep, this defense definitely brought back good memories. I think we might be on to something big here...

I’m ready to see how the D plays vs Sellers and Reed. If we can shut these two down then this D will be set up for a National Championship run.

This works in college because Clemson's RB coming out of the backfield f'd up. The Clemson RB was running to a spot and not reading PJ Woodland. If the Clemson RB immediately turns around as Woodland passes him then Klubnik can hit him for at least a short gain. And Klubnik should have thrown to that spot regardless. At worst it would have fell for an incomplete pass. You see this in the pros and 8 times out of 10 the defense is getting burned.

Thanks for the lesson in pass blocking, Mr. Reid

I also think the defense on the last drive deserves its own thread.

I watched "Carter the Power" and his analysis of Blake Bakers's defense against Clemson. He describes the blitz on Clemson't final play as "very, very, very diabolical". Breakdown starts at 14:50 as he compares it to a similar blitz he used last year against AR. Basically he took advantage of the RB's inexperience to block the wrong while the QB ran into the arms of a blitzing Perkins. OC's will figure out some of Baker's blitz packages, but hopefully he keeps some in reserve. I've always thought that was what happened to Matt House. His defense was much improved 2022, but by 2023, the OC's had figured him out. He was basically a "one trick pony." I don't think that'll happen w/ Baker.

Woodland also did a great job of running at the tackle instead of the gap. The back never saw him as a threat.

PJ Woodland’s closing speed on that play was phenomenal!! Couldn’t have executed it better. I’ll bet Woodland was salivating seeing that open up for him!!

Well I watched this in slow motion several times and what you say and what actually happened are totally different. The RB stays on the left side as he is evidently supposed to do on that play and the slot receiver comes to his right near the line of scrimmage. Both are looking back at the QB but are well covered. If Klubnik throws to a spot LSU likely has an INT.

I started typing a breakdown of the strategy but it's easier to say that you don't know jack shite.

He made vast improvements with last year’s trash personnel, this is going to be a fun ride with actually good players.

While I agree with you, LSU is a COLLEGE football team playing against COLLEGE teams and players. In that context, it’s a great call and execution.

Talking about pro ball is completely irrelevant to this conversation/thread.

No doubt but he's going to have to watch it as teams get film on them. I expect Baker to adjust as other teams adjust.

And here he is folks. The guy who thinks he is the smartest football guy in the room.

Jesus Christ

Hopefully Baker reads this as he may have never known

Yeah last year was tough, we just didn’t have it in terms of having enough talent in every spot. I think they did a good job maximizing the talent they had.

The difference this year (esp in secondary) is stark. Delane is a dog!
