In anticipation of what will probably be the most hyped regular season CFB game since 2011... Always interesting to see what fans think of the teams they follow religiously.

Some takeaways:
1) Their special teams are bad

2) Christian Barmore is a freshman DL who 100% of the time either creates havoc or blows his read/catches a penalty

3) Their defense really struggles to get off the field on third down (sound familiar) against pedestrian offenses — so they talk about the Barmore kid getting more PT and being “the missing ingredient” the same way we talk about Marcel Brooks.

4) They have put up 40+ on statistically comparable defenses to LSU’s (South Carolina, A&M)

5) Posters on SEC Rant & TideFans are mostly objective & respectful of opponents... these guys really aren’t that bad + probably don’t deserve the hell they catch here.

6) LSU/Bama teams jarringly similar this year. Elite QB play + receivers... Defense has battled the injury bug all year & given up lots of yards, but not too many points.

7) If fully healthy, I think I like LSU’s OL vs their DL better than Bama OL vs LSU’s DL. Some of them seem concerned with Shelvin & I gather they may have health/depth issues at Center.

That said.... this is probably a shootout either way.

And yeah... I know we got Auburn first. Don’t give me that crap, I’m not on the team & I AM DYING FOR NOVEMBER.

Game will be 50 something to 40 something. Which way, who knows?

If they lose to Auburn you'll be dead by November

...yikes

Read my post history — I’m usually the one telling people not to underestimate Barn this year. D-line is very good.

I mentioned them. It’s a big game. But I should still be allowed to talk Bama midway through season on a message board

Actually, I think the 4th quarter of the Florida game was a wake up call for our defense. I don't think Bama will score 30 on them.

Cannot afford good special teams because they are near their salary cap....

Barton Simmons is the ratings guy at 247 sports. Am I missing some inside joke about the Bama bump?

I was gonna say, Barton Simmons is too unique of a name to have two different ones associated with college football

Maybe it was a wake up call, but at this point if we’re just looking at evidence...

Claiming LSU’s defense will slow down Bama’s offense is no different from claiming Bama’s defense can slow down LSU’s offense. And I’m saying that as someone who is optimistic about this defense/thinks they’re probably better than most people think.

Waddle is a definite threat returning punts. Hopefully we won't be punting much.

I should have specified kicking & punting. He’s a bright spot but not sure he offsets poor play (and I mean objectively severely poor) at two specialty positions that can determine field position & points.

The current punter seriously might be a bigger deal than their kicking situation. He’s consistently plopping 30 yarders.

For all the talk of Burrow and Tagovailoa, watch this game be decided by an 18 year old kicker from Texas with a howitzer strapped to his leg named Cade York.

Those are the only three that can read and write. So let's not start giving out trophies.

Except for Waddle. That dude is fast AND slippery.

been watching that. Since Saban's MSU days I've been watching that man give you a different look pre-snap than post-snap. If he loads the box it is by assignment after you snap the ball. For some reason he seems to have backed off that this year. Youth? Coaching attrition showing? Not sure why.

Our QB progressions and play reads are much more flexible and defeat disguises better.

The middle is their weakness. It's not THAT weak, but the weakest point on the OL and weaker than in past years. Freshman OG still struggling and C isn't anything close to Barrett. I hope we loop and stunt and blits those interior gaps to death and pray they don't RPO or draw us to death in return.

I'll add: If going to cage rush, get those hands up!! Tua can tend to send out very flat passes when he gets in a hurry, he'll try to laser it and flatten it out. DBs can use that in addition to his eyes also. He knows it, and will adjust his timing for a passing lane instead of going over the top. Part of the reason their slants and posts work great, gets there in a hurry and right on time. Also why we can jump some of them. You can guess the path.

Great stuff as usual. It’s probably silly to say any unit on a team you expect to make a run at the CFP (other than Bama’s kicking specialists) is “weak” — but with regard to the drop-off in the middle of their O-line I will say this much: Who’s LSU’s best DL & what position does he play?

(Hint: Tyler Shelvin @ NG)
