There are at least two points of view regarding LSU football

1. Things are really good now. The Tiger Nation should be thankful for the success of its football program. A majority of posters appear to hold forth this perspective. It is an understandable position because it is largely true, especially using the 60s-90s as a comparator. There were few top 5 teams and fewer big bowl games. There were many losing seasons and embarrassing losses. LSU was always behind 'Bama, UF et al.
In the trial of LSU football history, CLM has no peers. His record is all that need be said about that. Further, I have stated that LSU and CLM got completely screwed by the BSC nimrods who forced them to play and beat alabama a second time before being declared champions. None of that changes the way things are in the SEC west.
2. While things are good, we really expect better. Everything about LSU football changed with Nick Saban. More than any other single human being, he is responsible for LSU being where it is today. If the irrepressible fans of LSU are anywhere near their assessment of LSU football talent, then for the last several years, excepting last year, LSU has underachieved. This is the responsibility of the coaching staff.
It seems to me that CLM has failed to get his teams to play better as the season progresses. He has failed to develop any good QBs, the jury on ZM still out. The team makes many unforced errors which mark a poorly coached unit. This year the offense has been stuck mostly in reverse AND, horror of horrors, the defense has gone completely taffy surrendering yards and huge plays with monotonous regularity.
Were this team to enter a playoff at this time, it would very likely get dismissed in the first round. It is playing poorly in all phases, just as it did much of the time against "lesser" opponents all year long. How can anyone believe this is the mark of a good team? Instead of peaking in the back half of the year, it is staggering, hoping for the other team to give it a break. Ole Miss and Arky obliged.
If LSU had found a way to win either the UF or 'Bama game, then much of my argument becomes moot. But it didn't and, moreover, it is playing its worst football all year. ZM has little feel for the pocket, the receivers are still dropping passes etc. I for one really expect better. Too many seasons in which one loss eliminates this team from contention for my liking.

I'm not reading your nonsense.

No credit is given to Ole Miss and Arky playing balls out because LSU is their "Super fricking Bowl"??????

They would probably be in the top 4 and looking at an automatic BCS bid and maybe a shot at the NC. One game in three of the last four years at least.

You are the anti-gray tiger.
The players deserve some blame, but this offense is too easy for defensive coaches to gameplan against.
And we lack stretch the field type WRs. I'm glad to see we have that coming into next year. But this team needs a true OC and him to be allowed to call his own O. If not, you'll see this same kind of O next year, and we will just have to count on our players to out-execute the opposition. So everyone will be back to blaming the players instead of the $5 million per year offensive coaching staff.

I expect better too and there is nothing wrong with that. Continuous improvement is a must and anything else should be unacceptable. I will love my Tigers at 10-2 or 2-10 though.

LSU may still get a BCS bowl bid

None. I really do not understand this line of thinking. Why is LSU the superbowl for these teams, but 'Bama is not? how is it that A&M and Moo State throttle Arky, but LSU looks completely inept. It has played inept for most of the year from my vantage.

Because those teams/fans say so..

Not sure who the gray tiger is.
At bottom it is the coaches. To his credit, I think that CLM has drawn up good game plans that the players have failed to execute, read poor passing and receivers with dropsy. Maybe at some point the coaches lose confidence in the players ability to execute certain things, but that is why they are the coaches.

TL;DR:
1. Things are awesome
2. Things are good but we expect better

I think most wish I would stop writing. All must be compared. Without a comparator there can be no judgement. If there is no evil, neither can there be no good. So it goes with everything at all times.

Of course things are never all good or all bad. There are great moments and bad moments for every team, even the best. And even the worst.
I think it is in the nature of message boards that people take extreme positions on things one way or the other on most issues. That's not necssarily a bad thing and it leads to entertainment in a lot of instances. I do sometime feel just a twinge of pity for those that can't seem to see (or at least express) any good thoughts - Landry's catch today or Ford's return or the great defense of the last Arky pass.
(and yes, there are a few that can't seem to see any bad at all. But at least as far as I can see most of these act in reaction to the incessant bashing instead of pro actively just praising the team/players/coaches off the cuff).

yes very predictable. Loved Arkansas pass on 4th and one. Miles (or who ever is running the O) would never do that these days. We went from a bizarre stupid offense under Crowton to a very predictable unimaginative offense under Stud/Miles. The ordinary plays we run, play in play out, are not creative in any way. Our passing plays are Jr high school level plays. It's not only the play calls, it's also the play designs.

true also

Well guilty to some degree as charged. Landry's play was great, but this team has produced far fewer of those kinds of plays than was expected entering the season given the hype. The fact remains that the offense mostly stunk to high heaven.
