Where does Orgeron rank as a head coach ?

Where does LSU rank in talent?

With the talent LSU fields we should be in playoff talk most years. Constant 9 win seasons is like being an addict and not knowing it.

Definitely top 6 talent year in and year out. Next year will be enough of a resume to see where Orgeron sits. 2 and a half years and he has shown no improvement over Miles.

Well to be fair we have been in the playoff talks a couple times but it’s always in the first week then we play Bama.

Too many talented players leave LSU before 4 years are up.

Our current roster on offense has no one who would have started for alabama or UGA. In fact, I am not sure just how many of our offensive players would be starting at places like Florida or Texas A&M or Auburn.

On defense, we have many more talented players to be sure. Our three kickers in 2018 were topnotch, imo.

Talent in the SEC

1. Alabama and no one is close.

2. UGA, #2 and stockpiling talent as we speak.

3. LSU, Auburn, A&M, Florida are in the same vicinity.

PJ is taking Minnesota to a bowl game in his 2nd year with a team featuring 11 freshman starters and a roster that is 58% freshman.

Very bright future in Minnesota as long as he's there

I'm not sure I agree, in recent history or into the future. I think LSU has a more talented defense than UGA. I think next year, on paper at least, our offense won't be far off in terms of talent. Obviously, Fromm > Burrow.

Don't buy into this. Our guys have offers from all sec schools. Other schools have young guys balling out. I'm thinking these players have the potential to be better in the right situation and it's our coaching that is failung them.

Could you imagine what he would do with LSU. People on here might start believing we could contend for the west

Ga > QB
Ga > TBs
Ga > WRs
Ga > OL
Ga > TE
Now we could catch up on OL, and perhaps WR but we need to prove it on the field.

I completely agree with this. I think the talent disparity on display on the field is greater than the talent disparity recruited.

Development, not recruitment, is primarily what sets Bama and UGA apart right now.

I know it. His roster is 58% freshman and 72% underclassmen. They beat Wisconsin by 30 points in Madison to secure a bowl birth.
11 freshman starters. 6 or 7 of those are true freshmen including a freshman quarterback.

He's an elite coach and a relentless recruiter. He's building a very good program at Minnesota.

Oh and he's well aware of what LSU could be

This goes to my main criticism of our staff. We recruit as well as anyone, and we're not *that* far behind Bama in who we get (not as far as our recent games would indicate, at least). Our offensive players just don't develop much at LSU -- they come in as 4 or 5 star HS players and leave as 4 or 5 star HS players.

On paper, next year we should have better RBs, WRs, and a similar OL. Fromm is what we thought we were getting in Brennan, so even that shouldn't be as big of a disparity as it is.

Bama and GA develop better than us, but in terms of raw talent, we're on par or close to those teams.

When they signed out of high school weren't Fromm, and Tua rated over Burrow? The Bama and Ga backs were certainly rated over our backs. They each have 5 star backs.
Smith and Nauta were over Moreau. WR Bama has five stars and Ga. has 4 stars. Our best is a 3 star but we have 4 and 5 stars as true freshman.

ETA Jefferson, Cushenberry, Lewis, Magee, CEH and Moreau were all three stars and they all started at different times on O.
Our D shows up much better. I think only Battle was a three star.

Constant 9 win seasons is perfectly satisfactory for the majority on here, in the LMSU fan base and more importantly to those that matter the most. (BOS-FKA-JA)

Orgeron is a mid-level SEC HC. (Not horrible, but will never be upper echelon)

LSU talent is comparable at every position to the Crimson Devils, except in the two most important ones. (Offensive Line and Defensive Line) Not even close there.

DL talent is not bad, but not nearly enough depth. OL is not close in any area. (Front line talent or quality depth) They're mostly smaller State school SELAU/SWLAJC@L caliber.

I question Orgeron and the Recruiting Coordinator on their ability to identify weaknesses and fix them in recruiting. We need to be signing 5 OL's and 5 DL's minimum every year. (No JUCO's either) All these highly ranked classes every year are not heavy enough in quality OL's & DL's.

Currently, we don't have the OL/DL talent to be in the playoffs. Many on here that have never played a down of organized football at any level don't seem to realize this because they look at the highly ranked recruiting classes and get excited. (Never mind the fact that the classes don't have nearly enough quality OL/DL to make a real difference) IF the OL/DL were better, LMSU would be right there.

BTW, I look at this Staff and the only ones that are "Bama Quality" would be Aranda, Busch and Raymond. Sullivan knows his stuff, but it's not translating to the field and I think it's time for him to retire. Everybody else needs to go. LSU can do much better than Ensminger as OC, (He needs to be coaching TE's) Robinson, (As RC) Joseph (Can't coach any position at this level and can only recruit) and Johnson. (Not experienced enough to coach DL at this level)

Remains to be seen if O realizes this and will do what is necessary or will it continue to be status quo BBQ Buddy mediocrity on the Staff.

The stubborn BBQ Buddy thing is what kills most Head Coaches in the long run.
