One of my favorite lsu pitchers. But as a play by play radio guy, he is horrific.

He just takes forever to let you know what happened. Multiple times last night im listening to the pbp and he spends the first 4-5 seconds saying things like “man oh man, there is a collision between beloso and the texas batter at first base.” 8-10 seconds later, we find out the ball went into right field and the runner went to second.
Samething later mathis swings at a pitch in the dirt for a strikeout. And a good throw by the catcher. 6-8 seconds later we find out hughes is also caught stealing at second base by the catcher.
Dude just leaves you hanging.

I agree with everything you said but he is new to this, just like he was new to being a color analyst. I’ve noticed a big improvement there and expect him to get better as a pbp guy when called upon as well. That said, I’m not looking forward to him calling the next 2 games, assuming he will be. Hopefully he improves each game.

Years ago one commentator said the worst thing about the Bill Cosby rape story was the hypocrisy of “America’s father” stooping to that. The other said, “No. The worst thing was the raping.”

The worst thing about last night was LSU’s pitching, errors, inability to stop them stealing, and lack of hitting. In short, the arse-whipping.”

I think the game was worse.

But yeah, he’s bad.

He had a call early in the game when we were batting where he described what kind of pitch it was, whether or not he swung, how fast he pitch was....and no mention of it was a ball or a strike. Only way to find out was his set up to the next pitch... “the 0-1 pitch”

I agree, but Blair actually does the same thing, a lot. I think Blair is very professional in terms of delivery (except when he sometimes makes it sound like something is a routine fly ball, with his lack of emotion, and it ends up being a double off the wall), but he tends to describe all the different things that are happening in the play, and takes a while to get to the point of whether the runner is safe or out. Or he'll give a short commentary on the play before actually telling you what happened. "And there's a ground ball... and unfortunately the hit and run is going to draw the shortstop right to the ball... tough break right there... And so (insert team) will turn the double play". That kind of frustrates me, at times.

I prefer for announcers to get to the point first, and after the play they can go on and describe the details of how it happened, and give their commentary.

tip of the cap to the Longhorn network on the call last night. thought it was cool they brought in Big Ben for the weekend. that's a sign respect to bring in our guy and some rantards are still bitching about the UT homers smh

His voice annoys me for some reason. I don't know why but I don't like it. This gif expresses how I feel.

I miss Hawthornes voice.

Haha...that was actually Norm McDonald that said that.

I'm rooting hard for Doug Thompson because I like him. He can achieve greatness in play by play.
