Time of possession obviously yes, but not necessarily less yards. You know what you do when the SMU offense comes back on the field again, you stop them 3 and out. SMU looked to be the better team until I stopped watching after that 3rd PSU TD before halftime. All 3 of their scores were either by the defense on stupid passes by Jennings or set up by the defense in great field position.

Worst is all the talking heads on TV and radio saying it should be expanded to 16 or more. It would be a money grab and many snooze fest games. Should have gone to 8 first, not from 4 to 12. I think if a team plays a conference championship and then the CFP games it will play 16 games. Just what the NFL Had forever before they added a 17th regular season game. Remember when there was outrage that "student athletes" shouldn't play more than 10 regular season games? Yeah, F the " Student" part. We don't need these snooze fests.

I’ll watch to see how Skattebo does on a bigger stage.

It'll play out exactly like all those games with individual players that look good against lesser competition. CFB isn't CBB.

You're correct.

The problem wasn't the 12 teams. It you take the 12 best teams this would be great. Not this watered down politically correct bullshite.

Shouldn't be any buys either.

You don’t think having a big lead after some pick sixes maybe affects your offensive playcalling or the fact that you basically lost an offensive possession? Or maybe when you’re winning by a ton you calling some softer defense that allows for SMU to pick up some garbage yards? SMU didn’t look like the better team in any way. To look at numbers and say they dominated anything is just silly.

I know a lot of us hate Bama at all costs. But I really think the biggest shame about Indiana and SMU and Boise ASU getting in with their super soft schedules is that as a college football fan we just get robbed of some really interesting and fun matchups. Imagine Ole Miss on the road at Notre Dame yesterday. Could have been so fun. Or South Carolina or Bama at Penn State right now. Instead we get these snooze fests of teams that are totally outmatched.

We didn’t get “robbed”’of anything.

Bama was in the playoffs before the season began. The lost their spot by going 3-2 vs teams with .500 or below records -not the the “tough” part of their schedule.

Boise and Arizona State earned their spots by virtue of winning their conference.

Yes, Indiana benefited from a weak schedule…just like Texas did. In the end, a one loss Big 10 team, just like a one loss SEC team, will get the benefit of the doubt.

As for SMU - at the end of the day, what integrity the playoff committee has was at least kept by leaving them in the field after losing in their CC.

The playoff committee got it right. PERIOD.
If SMU had blown out PEnn State, it would not have changed that fact.

The biggest screw up the playoff committee had, which we’d be stuck with but for Clemson’s upset, was putting Bama as the first team out over Ole Miss.

With no h2h and a negligible difference in SOS, the committee’s next stated metric was “outcomes vs common opponents”, which overwhelmingly favored Ole Miss in 3 of 4 data points. Yet the committee went with their eye test BS

SMU was dominating the game BEFORE Jennings gave it away. They were moving the ball better and stopped Penn State on two 4th downs. But just like you said the playcalling changes depending on the score, etc, my guess is SMU didn't call the same plays in the 2nd half when they were way behind. I didn't watch so that is just a guess. But Jennings literally gave that game away. When Penn State was ahead 14-0, the game should have been SMU ahead 7-0. Besides the pick 6's, Jennings had a TE in the EZ and threw the ball behind him. That was the play the announcers said he should have just taken the 1st down. Penn State was ahead 14-0 at one point and had done nothing offensively. It reminded me of the OU vs Alabama game when OU got 1 pick 6 and another INT that they returned deep into Alabama territory. Milroe gave away that game just like Jennings gave away the Penn State game. Once again, SMU would beat S Carolina IF and only IF Jennings would play a decent game...not a great game...but simply a decent one. But QB position counts. I asked my brother about a hypothetical game of SMU vs S Carolina and that is the answer he gave me...I agree with him.

for me is folks using teams getting in under this brand new format as a comparison to past success - it's apples and oranges.
