We’re very quickly getting there. Dj pickett is the type of freak athlete physically that we were accustomed to getting in the golden DBU era same with Aidan Anding. Ja’keem Jackson also has elite size and length we’ll see if he can put it together under Raymond. Next year is the most physically gifted cb room in the BK era. The honest truth is a big reason stamps played so much was a lack of talent and other options in the cb room.
He is not an ideal cb1 on a high level sec team. Look at the sec teams who made the playoffs (Texas, Georgia) Would stamps even be the CB3 on those rosters ? Probably not.

This won’t be better than LSU’s 2022 defensive backfield

Doesn’t Va Tech have a really good OT in the portal too?

Flat out disagree. That room had good football players but no lockdown island type of cb. Dj Pickett is more physically gifted than any corner in the 2022 room, Jackson has an incredibly high ceiiling, Anding is a great athlete, even woodland has promise.
The 2022 room overachieved but heading into the year we absolutely were skeptical of that room so that take is a bit of revisionist history.

At first glance/ mention of VT, I thought “oh good; some help on the OL.”

I don’t ever count on freshmen to contribute, sorry

The last two 5 star cornerbacks under Corey Raymond(Derek Stingley, Eli Ricks ) were day 1 starters. 5 star corners historically play right away under Raymond. Plus in the NIL era if you don’t play elite recruits right away they leave with how hard we fought to keep Pickett in the class he will play day 1

I didn’t say they can’t start or play. You just can’t count on them too

He was not signed to play edge CB. He was signed to play safety or the star position. His greatest strength is his physicality against the run. His biggest weakness is in coverage. He’s a huge upgrade over Major Burns at the Star position, which he most likely will play at LSU.

We do get overly excited but I do believe Delane is legit. He’s even been mocked as an early round draft pick. He has experience at safety too, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they played him there either given our situation.
I’m a little more hesitant on the Jackson kid. Just not a whole lot of film to go off of. But CR likes him enough

What a crappy take. If this dude isn’t any better than Stamps then why did Kelly even bother to pay this dude to come?
I’m sure Kelly is looking for better players at their position than what he’s got. Not the same level.

Stamps is not close to an an SEC level cb1 he wouldn’t even sniff the field in a classic lsu defensive backfield.
Look man I think stamps is just an average cb too. I’ve said it all year
But this kid from vt is no sure thing.
He and stamps essentially had the same pff grade with stamps playing way better comp

Are you disregarding the fact that they essentially had the same pff grade this year with this kid playing a weaker schedule?

True. Cuse beat them this year and three of the last four meetings. Cuse >>>>> VT since the Mike Vick days

You talking about Pickett? He’s weak in coverage?
Posted on 12/17/24 at 7:26 am to LuzianaFootball
I read Delane had injury pre-season so wasn't 100% first game, but started anyway. That was good, close game against Vandy that went into OT. We also found out during the year that Vandy is good team. Delane had good year at VT, quality pickup for our secondary, 3 years experience, a starter past 2 years, will be starter Day 1. Also Freshman AA. He's good fit in our secondary, aggressive, good tackler, great closing speed. Can play multiple positions including safety. He could have gone to NFL draft but chose to play Sr year to perfect his craft under Raymond. He was projected #2 CB in 2025 draft.

t-Rant said the exact same thing about Chestnutt and Denver Harris

Chestnut was 5’8” at best and couldn’t play with Sec WRs
