re: The Truth About Ed Orgeron’s Hire

Really most of the fan base were happy with Orgeron. It was a very vocal 10% of the fans who went nuts in opposition. I just hope they now realize how poor their judgement was.
If anyone was angry about the Orgeron hiring and didn't want Miles fired I hope they realize they should sit out any future coaching discussions, much less act like an arse about it.
Same goes for anyone who thought Johnny Jones was a good coach.

I don't think anyone didn't want Miles fired at that point
especially anyone that was against O being hired
I know my main fear was that O's ceiling was continuing 9-3 type mediocrity that Miles had begun

New take on an old subject.

You aren't capturing the whole story. The problem with O's hire wasn't only because O was hired. It was the timing of Les's firing. He should have been let go after the 2015 season so a proper coaching search could have been made. Joe Alleva fricked that up because he couldn't get Jimbo to commit while he was keeping Les around at the end of 2015.
I didn't have a problem with O being hired when he was hired. He made the most sense at the time, given the options available. It was a risky hire but who else were they going to hire that was better? Jimbo wouldn't sign and Herman played us.
I think most fans were disappointed about losing out on Herman and Jimbo and settling for O, and at the time, there was every reason to feel that way. There were some fans who did not like O and thought he would fail. But I feel like most supported him and wanted him to succeed, though were skeptical if he could. I was one of those. I'm happy he has done as well as he has.

At the time of the hire, I told my buds that I would rather go 11 and 1 or 10 and 2 and lose to Alabama with a guy from down the bayou than with a guy from Ohio. But, I was wrong because we BEAT frickIN’ ALABAMA!

Check my post history. You will not find 1 anti Eaux post. I have been and are still Eaux from the geaux.

Alleva was lazy and incompetent. None of this was in his plan. Explain to me the analysis he used, why he was trying to get those other coaches and how all of that nonsense with how he handle the Miles firing, ...after making sure Miles had a huge buyout, matches his genius?

I liked it from the begining

More fan fiction. Y'all are like preteen girls spreading gossip.

I wasn't thrilled with the O hiring. I was less thrilled, though, with the notion that we should have backed up a Brinks truck to get Jimbo or Herman. It didn't seem to make a lot of sense, especially for someone like Jimbo, who seemed clearly to have lost a bit of drive.

The bottom line is that it’s a great story, and the 90% of us who rolled our eyes at Joe Alleva for the hire were wrong. And we are all thrilled to be wrong. Let’s just be honest with ourselves, cut the bullshite and leave it at that.
Let's wait and see what LSU looks like next year and the year after without Burrow at QB before we claim him the next Nick Saban of college football.
He has done a wonderful job this year but LSU could have easily lost 2-3 games this year if it wasn't for #9 at QB!
Only time will tell but he deserves a raise and extension for sure and I am damn sure pulling for him 100%!!

Why does this even cross your mind and why does it matter?

Defending Alleva You're right Rog, Alleva was so good at his job, which is why he still has it even after O did well last year and Wade was a home run hire.
Yep lazed his way right to the unemployment line!

Is not the same as

Was he my first choice? No. But I supported him from Day 1.
Just cuz you don’t like the hire doesn’t mean you should bash it relentlessly without giving the guy a chance.
When a hire is made, you are stuck with the guy for at least 2 or 3 years so you might as well support him until it’s PROVEN that he can’t do the job.

I think speaking of the fanbase as a whole, it is, though. There were plenty of people visibly up in arms HERE. I didn't like the hire, but I never blew a gasket about it on this board.
Everyone I encountered in the real world, who didn't like it, still clung to hope that it would work out and were willing to give him a chance. That's how I always felt.
This seems to be the only place people get into entrenched "camps" on such things.

If you want to get a truer sense of who really believed this would turn out the way it did, you need to go back to the general state of mind before the hire was made... shortly after Miles was fired. NOBODY thought Orgeron’s name being on the list of interviewees meant that he was being considered a serious candidate. The mood was: they’re just interviewing him as a courtesy, now who are we really going after. I’m sure you cans find a few posters who jumped on it even at that point, but those were the “he talk like us” types.
