for the record, Alabama didn't get my #25 spot like he did for so many. Until they can beat Miss State, they aren't close to being a top 25 team.

My vote for Bama was more of a sympathy vote...like how Spurrier pencils in Duke at 25 every year. If they win they'll stay but they'll probably fall out.

Why? They may have as many as 9 true freshmen playing this year. Slackhouse said it best. Until they can beat ULM or Miss. St......they are out of the 25. I have Tulsa @ 25. Right now, I believe Tulsa can beat Alabama.

so you have 3 SEC teams to start the top 10, then 4 big 12 teams to finish the top ten...AND, you are a LSU (sec) fan living in Texas (big 12)

the other question i have about your top 10....IF LSU is #1, shouldn't the rest of your top 10 be....

by definition only.....
in my opinion Champion = 1
we are the defending National Champion so we should be defending #1.
this is a PRESEASON POLL....
after the season starts, the IN-SEASON polls will take over. My feeling is that whoever the National Champion was the year before, should start as # 1 in the "PRESEASON" poll.
Now, we will be the Defending National Champions up to and until the next BCS NC game is played and someone else takes the spot.
Once the IN-SEASON polls come out, OTHER factors will come into play and we may or may not be # 1.
Here is another viewpoint:
Since we know that when a team is #1, it is hard to knock them off the position, should the benefit of the doubt not go to the Defending National Champion ?.....until such time as the in-season polls factor in other things???
It think it should be an automatic,
call it tradition, call it respect, call it whatever......
for the PRESEASON poll only......
this would also allow a little maneuvering ofr the top spot when such # 1 stumbles...if they do.

I gave Mississippi State my #25 spot. Based solely out of respect for Croom and the fact that everyone else had Bama around that spot. I figure if people can put Bama at 25, I can put a team that owns them in their place.

why should this ONLY apply to the #1 team
if you reward 1 team for last seasons accomplishments, you should reward them all....which is why you can't carry rankings from one year to the next...starting florida at #13 is just as absurd as starting LSU #1

That is a pretty good choice. I think M. State finishes third in the SEC West again. They have to watch out for Bama, but I think they have one year of superiority left for sure.
