Back then they didn’t know as much about concussions and CTE was an acronym no one had ever heard of.

They were correct, you cant hit what you csnt see is how my coaches said it but not hitting with the crown of your helmet was more about neck injuries and paralyzation than CTE and concussions

This is 100% for player safety. The safety rules have got to be enforced. There is coming a day when football won’t exist because kids and their parents will turn to safer sports, ie soccer and basketball. Already, my 10 year old and his buddies don’t want to play because of head injuries, and it is not me talking to him.
Personally, I’m anxiously awaiting the 100% elimination of blocking below the waist. It’s closer, but still not there.

You LAUNCH and leave you're feet, you are gone.
He LAUNCHED and he gone. Didn't matter. Clemson was outclassed and lucky they only lost by 17.

You can’t help but notice the neck roll he wears. I bet it’s not the first time he has tackled with his head

Joe was right, they have a bunch of smart players on that defense.

That's the rule as it stands. I don't like it either but, IT'S THE RULE.

Now, maybe they should be relegated to a penalty box-like situation. Called for targeting...out for 15 game minutes.

That call was 100% correct.

I just don't like the ejection part.

Make it a 15 yarder and unsportsmanlike conduct so if they get a second unsportsmanlike THEN toss them.

You do realize he lowered the crown of his helmet on the Burrow hit to ribs right before half. He just narrowly missed landing the helmet hit and got him with the R shoulder, mainly because Burrow was moving to the R and back on the throw

I was in Clemson section and I immediately said he is gone. Guys behind bitching about horrible call. Etc. I told them no one has suffered more than us with targeting, we even put up billboards over it. It wasn’t intentional and he should not be ejected for the hit because it’s Stupid rule, but he was gone.

Hated it. Was the only person in my little section not cheering - penalize him sure but don’t toss a player for that.

1. it was textbook targetting. he launched his body headfirst, face down, leading with the crown of the helmet into justin jefferson. doesn't even matter if he contacts jefferson's head or not. the launch and crown-first elements make it targetting automatically. they called this correctly.

2. it wasn't his first dangerous play of the game. the pass burrow completed for a touchdown to thad moss just before halftime ... skalski came through and launched his helmet into burrow's left elbow and ribcage and definitely caused some serious pain for joe. burrow came off the field wincing and had to come out halfway through halftime to loosen back up on the bike. dude was obviously not feeling 100% on the first drive of the 3rd quarter, as well. you could see his reluctance to run when he had an opportunity. the ribs were definitely sore. skalski is a crap linebacker who plays dangerously, and he will continue to find himself ejected or fined at the next level if he doesn't correct his technique.

He's been doing it since high school. I posted his HS highlights this morning, and he leads with the crown every chance he gets.

Would have worked back in the day, chief! An injury to a player with the crown of a helmet can be unbearable. He hit Burrow in a similar fashion and got away with it. Could have been a devastating injury for Burrow. You can't be playing with the intention to kill somebody.

The rule is a good one....safety comes 1st to the NCAA and rules are there to prevent hard hitting college players from injuring there brains so they don't end up like Mike Anderson....do some research ...google the work done by University of Virginia on the effects of helmet to helmet hits in college players and how the cumulative effects during the season leads to serious diminished cognitive test scores. Thats why alot of former great football players didn't allow there kids to play football...Bo Jackson is one of them

I didn’t feel great about it at first, then saw his temper tantrum and the “crazy” in his eyes when his helmet came off. It is guys like him that the targeting rules were put in place for.

A first infraction ejection for a penalty that can definitely be subjective is a crap rule. But it’s not the only crap rule that gets enforced and in this instance it was BLATANT.

I don’t have an issue with the rule, Moreso with the instant penalty. Have the first targeting penalty for the team result in loss of yards and first down, second result in player ejection.

Puts a bit of responsibility back on coaching staff and makes it not seem so much like refs trying to manipulate games.

Although in this case it wouldn’t have mattered
