The talking point that LSU is 56th in Passing D is Fool’s Gold

That stat is ranked on yds/game. It does not take into account how many pass attempts a team defends over the season. It is obvious if you defend more attempts you will give up more yards.

LSU has had 484 passes attempted on the D. ONLY 4 teams have had more pass attempts against them this year!

Clemson, on the other hand, has had only 384 pass attempts against their D.

Clemson 384 att, 5.5 yds/att, 151.5 yds/game

What if LSU faced the same teams and only had 384 attempts vs. the D? Keeping our same 6.4 yds/att?

LSU at 384 att, 6.4 yds/att, 175.5 yds/game

What would LSU be ranked with those numbers? 5th!

Can’t wait for Clemson to be surprised at our passing D! Oh, and btw, LSU is #2 at opponents completion % at 50.8.

People really aren’t grasping the fact that our high powered offense really affects our Defenses numbers.

Good stat.

The LSU run D is even worse. I would say we are borderline elite, but people think we are the worst in the country.

The “LSU’s defense isn’t good” narrative is highly overinflated.

If the Ole Miss game doesn’t happen, nobody is saying anything negative about this defense. That game happened due to several reasons. It was right after the huge win at Alabama and we were up by like 24 points at halftime.

You are correct. The Ole Miss game killed our stats and gave the media their talking point. It is a huge outlier. Something like 3x on yds/rush. Remove just the 2nd half of that game and we are way up on the rankings.

Just more of a smokescreen for Aranda who will get exposed(unfortunately) Monday night. Does the excuses never end for this guy??

I don't know what you guys are watching but a lot of the stuff I've seen, its been mentioned how much better our defense was the last few games and that we were healthy.

Over the last 4-5 games our D is playing as good as any D in the country. OU had one score when the game was on the line, and it was set up with a great catch in really good coverage.

Think a lot of the country is overlooking how good we have become on that side of the ball.

Comparative stats are pointless when Clemson didn’t play against any team with an offensive pulse.

Coachw,

I knew you would show up. Of course, you don’t offer anything to the conversation other than negativity. Who is your team btw? It certainly isn’t LSU.

Aranda was underwhelming this year, but he generally does very well in bowls and other high profile games.

D has looked much improved since the Arkansas game. Solid positive trend

That said, the defense gave up a ton of yards to Florida, Texas, Vandy, Bama and Ile Miss. part of that was teams trying to play catch up. Part of it was poor defensive play

I love our defense, but what you're actually saying is "what if LSU was better at not giving up first downs?"

Get the other team off the field sooner, and you defend fewer plays. They are doing much better at that now, but they gave up plenty of big plays on 3rd down for a good part of the season.

You've been saying this all season.
So "coach", what exactly do you despise about Arranda's coaching?

What also inflated the passing attempt numbers was that our D made the stop on 3rd down - but because the opposing team was so far behind they went for it on 4th down. In a closer game the D would have forced a punt
