The SEC was loaded with talented linebackers last season, and when you started listing them, Rolando McClain, Eric Norwood, Brandon Spikes, Rennie Curran, Jamar Chaney, Patrick Benoist and Micah Johnson were the names you usually heard first. The 6-foot-3, 239-pound Sheppard deserved to be in that group then, and he enters the 2010 season at the forefront of the top linebackers in the league and the country.

Another example of the things that make many folks think this defense could be exceptional.

I am one of them.

Shep in the middle. PP and Mo at CB with Loston, Jai, Hatcher, Taylor and maybe even Eric Reid roaming the middle. Throw in Nevis, Downs, Combat Mode Montgomery and Mingo and the D could be a down right nightmare. Just gotta figure out the other LB spots.

Is it just me or does it seem like Sheppard's been playing for us since the mid 90s. ??

What other Tigers do you think will make this list?

PP should be at the top of the charts. Maybe TT to pop up soon. Who else?

All seem to be up to the challenge to play in the SEC....sans Jai Eugene....still gets beat a lot...demonstrates to perfection the difference between speed and athleticism that is consistently confused with the ability to cover...and while Jai may be the former, he certainly has shown tme and time again he lacks the latter

slow down.....as riddiculous as Dandy Don proclaiming Mingo to be a future all time defensive tiger great and he doesn't even have a true position yet

this is kind of important wouldn't you say?

Not trying to be a nega-tiger....just saying we have a lot to figure out before we start holding our chest out again....but I look forward to the day we can....I sure do miss being the king

Its amazing what great coaching can do for a player. KS was one of the biggest weak links when Malveto was here. Chavis comes and turns him into a nationally recognized LB.

Now if we could only get a good QB coach...

Seems like he's been here for a while. He's come a long way since people thought that was Ryan Perilloux out there playing special teams in 2007.

Didn't realize he was a 3* coming out of high school. Good job by the coaching staff:

I think our best 3 LB's are Sheppard, Baker and Minter. Putting Minter in means Sheppard has to play outside, but that gets our best 3 out there.

It's a countdown. #9 is out as of today. Kelvin the only LSU player on the list thus far. Looking to see Peterson and Tolliver in the top 8 along with Julio Jones, AJ Green, Mark Ingram, Maillet, etc...
