I know Bama is only a 1/2 game back, did one of their games get rain out or someting? My assumption is all the teams schedule the same number of SEC games.

Yes, they had a rain out. Each team plays a 3-game series with everyone in their division and a 3-game series with 5 of the 6 teams in the other division. The 1 team in the other division that they do not play rotates each year. LSU did not play Vandy this year. That accounts for a 30 game schedule. If a game is cancelled for any reason it cannot be made up. Standings go by winning percentage.

Mississippi State is terrible. If LSU can't sweep them, then they don't deserve to win the title. This thing would already be decided if not for a slip up against Tennesse. I think LSU will sweep MSU.

Yes it matters. I'm quite sure it was ONE of the milestone goals set at the beginning of the season by this team.
Goal #1: SEC reg Season Championship
Goal #2: SEC Tourney Championship
Goal #3: Regional Victory
Goal #4: Super-Regional Victory
Goal #5: CWS Victory
With each successive victory/goal achieved comes confidence, enabling the achievement of the ultimate prize: NCAA Championship!
All that being said, the Tigers need to take it one step at a time, game by game.

.....which Lsu hasn't done since 2003.
(to spell it out for Josh that means LSU has not won the regular season SEC Championship in baseball since the year 2003; that is a team goal every year, as well as winning the SEC Tournament championship and the CWS Championship.)

Goals 3,4, and 5 are independent of goals 1 and 2, and arent necessary. We've done it before.

The regular season SEC title would be nice, but as long as we win 2of3 at State this weekend, we'll get a Top8 seed and that's more important.
Although we shoot for conference titles, we all know national titles is what we're really after.

Your question was, "Does it matter?". I say "Yes". Confidence and "getting on a roll" are very important this time of year. Seeding will also be affected.
So, IMO, it matters but is not necessary, two different criteria.
