The prediction was the transfer portal would lead to talent hoarding by elite teams

The usual suspects would cherry pick the best players from smaller schools and the rich would get richer. That's happened, but the portal works in the other direction too. That Tech team had SEC talent at key positions, especially on defense, and it showed.

The portal has spread the talent out. The top end talent is still at the big schools, but the depth is spread out amongst the rest.

Players want to see the field and audition for the pros.
If you ball out at Tech this year you can start at a P4 program next year.

Three former Auburn players, a Georgia and a Bama player on defense.

They've had top 25 defenses the past few years. They're good. Not sure what their final rank last year was but they had a good defense last year. The year before they definitely had a top 25 defense. Their front seven is good. It was actually a great small college opponent for LSU because they have a good defense.

Makes coaching that much more important

They actually horded more players when they weren't able to be transferred. Now it's slowly settling where the lower level schools are able to get much higher quality than they ever could before nil. And they're deals. There are a LOT of once cupcakes that are now decent. Coaching like actually being there and hands on means so much more now.

I saw several guys on that Tech D that I think would be good additions to next year’s Tigers with the added benefit of a year of playing experience. Make Tech our farm system.

Keeping your guys and developing will still be a huge part of it
Especially for schools like La Tech

It creates more parity just like the NFL with free agency. Coaches that can evaluate talent and are capable of coaching that talent up are going to be a premium. It’s really a totally different game now.
